🐝🍯 Bringing Learning to Life in Kindergarten! 🍯🐝

Today, our kindergarten students had a very special visit from Puncheon Camp Farms beekeepers for the second year in a row! Mr. Baker joined us to teach our students all about beekeeping, including how bees make and store honey and the important role beekeepers play.

This visit was the perfect real-world connection to our reading text of the week, From Nectar to Honey. Instead of simply reading about the process, our students had the opportunity to bring their learning to life by asking questions, exploring beekeeping equipment, and learning directly from someone with firsthand experience.

Experiences like this support our focus on providing vibrant learning opportunities and developing our Portrait of a Learner competencies. As we work to develop Responsible Citizens, we want our students to see how what they learn in the classroom connects to their community, future careers, and valuable life skills. Beekeeping is a wonderful example of a profession and skill that is meaningful and useful right here in our own area. 🐝🌼

We are so thankful to Mr. Baker and Puncheon Camp Farms for sharing their time, equipment, and knowledge with our kindergarten students. Opportunities like this make learning meaningful, memorable, and connected to the world beyond our classroom! 💙🧡

🔬✨ Second Grade Scientists: Strategic Problem Solvers! ✨🔬

Our second grade Science students have been putting their problem-solving skills to work this week as we explore the Properties of Matter! 🧪

From creating lists to describe matter and testing materials to classify them, to working collaboratively to create and investigate their own slime, these young scientists have been making predictions, testing ideas, observing carefully, and collecting evidence.

Today, they took their learning one step further by using popular candies to identify and classify properties, predict how those properties might change when exposed to heat or cold, and then observe the results while collecting data to share. 🍬🌡️📊

We are so proud of the curiosity, collaboration, and critical thinking these young scientists are demonstrating! Science is so much more than learning facts—it’s learning how to think, question, investigate, and solve problems. 🔍💡🧠
