104 years later, the scars remain; On May 31, 1921, Tulsa's roaring Black community in Greenwood was destroyed by a white mob. Hundreds were killed, thousands displaced, and justice was never served. We remember…but the silence and inaction persist.

As we remember those who gave their lives in service, it’s important to reflect on Memorial Day’s deeper origins, ones rooted in resilience and Black leadership✊🏽.

In 1865, newly freed Black Americans in Charleston, South Carolina, held one of the first Memorial Day ceremonies. They honored Union soldiers who died fighting for freedom, reburied them with care, and held a powerful procession of song, prayer, and remembrance 🛐.

Memorial Day was born not just from loss, but from love, justice, and a vision for a better nation. Today, we carry that legacy forward ⚖️.
