We won a reprieve because we organized.
After an extraordinary outpouring of support from students, faculty, staff, and community members, the university has announced a one-year extension of the proposed discontinuation of the B.A. in Spanish. Collective pressure mattered. Voices were heard.
We want to thank the more than 400 people who signed the petition, the students who organized and demonstrated at the HSI Summit, the department chairs and faculty who submitted letters, Senate leadership for their advocacy, elected officials who spoke up, and the many CFA members who helped coordinate this effort.
But let’s be clear: this is not the final victory.
The Spanish BA has one more year and will now go through a formal review process. Its future is still being decided.
The coming year will be critical. We will stay organized, stay engaged, and keep fighting for our students, our campus, and the communities we serve.

East Bay is at a crossroads.
Enrollment is down.
Programs are being cut.
The Spanish BA is on the chopping block.
But austerity isn’t inevitable. It’s a choice.
Faculty, students, and staff are asking a different question:
Are we going to shrink the university — or strengthen it?
Hundreds of people have already spoken out.
Students raised a banner at the HSI summit.
Hundreds signed a petition to save Spanish.
Now it’s time to organize.
CFA is holding a Budget Town Hall to break down what’s really happening and decide what collective action it will take to protect academic pathways at East Bay.
📍 CSUEB TV Studio (1st Floor of Library)
📅 Thursday, March 26, 2026
⏰ 12:15 pm - 1:15 pm

If you want a voice in the future of this campus, you need to be part of the union.
Join CFA. Come to the town hall. Let’s build the power to make East Bay stronger.

Day 3 on the line with the : Breaking Bread
Today, more CFA faculty, counselors, librarians, staff, coaches, and students joined the picket to demand the Teamsters get the fair pay they bargained for.
In this post, we wanted to reflect on the value of Breaking Bread together as we engage in collective action.
Of course, staying nourished is important for us as individuals, but something powerful happens specifically when we share these meals with our comrades.
As we continue to do our solidarity work, let's keep in mind the value of pausing, resting, and making sure all the homies are well fed for the fight ahead.
One more day on the Line! Hope to see y'all tomorrow!

on the line at CSUEB Day 2!
Today, CFA members once again joined our Teamsters siblings on the picket line to demand fair pay for hard work.
Solidarity is not always glamorous. It is messy, challenging, and sometimes, cold and rainy. But together, we shall overcome.
Two more days on the line.
Are you in?

Rain or shine, it's Union Time!
Today, CFA East Bay members joined the on strike at CSUEB, along with Teamsters at all 22 campuses of the CSU system.
The downpour will never dampen our mood as much as poor working conditions, so we will continue to stand in solidarity to demand change.
See you tomorrow on the picket, and remember: Who Got the Power? We Got the Power!!
