A special homecoming at Moreau Catholic! ⚓

Last Wednesday, we were honored to welcome Fr. Tito Bonoan, former Moreau Catholic Chaplain, back to campus, along with Bishop Renato Mayugba of the Diocese of Laoag in the Philippines.

During their visit, Fr. Tito and Bishop Mayugba toured campus, reconnected with members of our Mariner community, and met with school leadership to discuss the continued growth of Moreau Catholic’s Philippine Service Immersion Program (PSIP).

PSIP provides our students with an extraordinary opportunity to put their Holy Cross education into action through service, cultural immersion, faith, and meaningful relationships with communities in the Philippines.

We are grateful to Fr. Tito and Bishop Mayugba for spending time with us and for their continued partnership in creating transformative experiences for our students.

It was wonderful to welcome Fr. Tito home.

On this most joyous High Five Friday🖐️, let it be proclaimed throughout the kingdom that, after fierce battles of cunning, courage, and questionable hand gestures, one warrior hath risen above them all. Through the ancient and noble art of Rock, Paper, Scissors ✊✋✌️, challengers fell one by one until only one champion remained standing.

A record-breaking welcome for the Class of 2030 parents!

A couple of weeks ago, we welcomed our Frosh parents to campus for the annual Frosh Parent Social—and we had our largest turnout ever! It was a wonderful evening filled with new connections, great conversations, and the beginning of many friendships that will grow over the next four years.

We are so excited to welcome our Class of 2030 students and families into the Mariner Family and look forward to all that lies ahead.

Today, as we begin the new school year, we gather to ask the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts, enlighten our minds, and guide us as a community. In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us, “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.” Salt brings out the flavor of what is already there and light helps people see. Jesus doesn't say, “Try to become salt and light.” He says, “YOU are the salt of the earth. YOU are the light of the world.” It is already part of who we are as people created and loved by God. 

So, as we begin this school year, the question is not simply, “What will I accomplish?” but also, “Who will I become, and what kind of presence will I be for others?”

⚖️ HONORING A HISTORIC SEASON! 💚💛

Last Wednesday, Hayward Mayor Mark Salinas welcomed Moreau Catholic’s 2025–2026 Mock Trial Team to City Hall to recognize an incredible achievement: a historic 2nd-place finish at the California State Finals—the highest finish in Moreau Catholic history! 🏆

After capturing a record 10th Alameda County Mock Trial Championship in just 14 years, our 16-member team advanced to the California State Finals, where they competed against 33 of the top high school teams from across the state. Moreau emerged as one of only two undefeated teams and, for the first time in program history, advanced to the State Championship Round!

Under the leadership of Head Coach Heather Marinko ’12, these Mariners demonstrated extraordinary dedication, determination, teamwork, and perseverance throughout the season.

“I am incredibly proud of these students,” Marinko shared. “I always believed they had this potential, but their dedication, determination, and perseverance truly brought this moment to life.”

A huge thank you to Mayor Salinas and the City of Hayward for recognizing and celebrating our students at City Hall. We are so proud to be part of the Hayward community—and even prouder of these Mariners for representing Moreau Catholic with such excellence. 💚💛
