Congratulations to our MA student April Galvin for winning the Harrington University Thesis Award! 🏆
April's thesis is titled "Radical Religion and Revolutionary Politics: How Secular Christianity Influenced the Bay Area Antiwar Movement" and offers a compelling look at the role of secular Christianity within movements for social and political change in the Bay Area. What an incredible day at the 9th Annual Wanda Washington Student Conference at Cal State East Bay! 🎓✨
This year’s conference brought together nearly 50 students who presented their research, shared original work, and contributed to a full day of engaging panels and discussions. The energy, creativity, and dedication on display truly made this one of the most exciting events of the year for our department.
From supporting peers to exploring advanced-level research, attendees had the chance to gain inspiration, exchange ideas, and experience what an academic conference is all about.
Thank you to everyone who presented, participated, and helped make this event such a success. We’re already looking forward to next year! 💡📚

Join us for the 9th Annual Wanda Washington Student Conference on Friday, April 24, 2026 (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM) at the CORE Library, with a virtual option available via Zoom.
This is one of the most exciting events of the year for our department. With nearly 50 student presenters sharing research, original work, and engaging in a full day of panels and discussions, this is a great chance to support your peers, explore advanced student research, experience an academic conference environment, and get inspired for your own future projects.
The day will include:
☕ Morning continental breakfast (8:00–8:30 AM)
🎤 Student panels and plenary sessions throughout the day
🍽 Lunch provided (12:15–1:15 PM)
🏆 Closing awards and scholarship ceremony (4:30–5:00 PM)
You are welcome to attend for the full day or drop in for sessions that interest you! We strongly encourage you to attend as this is a great way to engage with our department's community and celebrate the impressive work your fellow students are doing.
