We offer programs in areas of: Conservation Biology, Fisheries Biology, Wildlife Biology, Range Conservation, Botany, Zoology, and Environmental Biology. in Biology: Pre-Physical Therapy, Pre-Medicine (Biology Option), Pre-Occupational Therapy, Cellular / Molecular Biology, and Pre-Veterinary Medicine. We also offer a dual degree with a B. S. in Biology and Secondary Education.

A team went out to collect samples at Webster Reservoir. Lauren Perez and David Bohorquez are taking samples while Dr. Kohno and Dr. Lee observe and provide helpful hints. In the lab, the team will work with Dr. Gruenstauedl to analyze the cyanobacteria that currently have the lake under a blue-green algae warning. Truly a collaborative effort!

The Channell Lab attended the 2026 Ecological Society of America conference this week! Dr. Channell and graduate students Elizabeth Horinek and Emily Redding networked with fellow ecologists in Salt Lake City. Emily and Dr. Channell also presented posters sharing their research findings. Emily won the Pensoft Publishers’ Agricultural and Environmental Modelling poster competition. Her poster “An analysis of woody encroachment in Kansas and its effect on grassland bird communities” was one of three award recipients.

Amelia Coykendall presented a poster at the 2026 Joint Meeting of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists in New Orleans. Her research project used morphology and genomics to identify a hybrid rattlesnake preserved in the Sternberg’s herpetology collection. Dr Jackson Roberts and Sternberg Museum affiliate Travis Taggart also attended the conference.

As summer winds down, we’re looking back on an unforgettable summer with our very own College Rodeo Queen, Ansley Carlson! 👑🤠

Between trading in her lab coat for a cowboy hat, Ansley spent the summer hitting the road, representing FHSU at parades, rodeos, and community events across the region!

✨ From displaying flags in the arena to meeting young fans along the parade routes, she’s brought passion, poise, and school pride wherever the trail took her.
