Today marked the start of the fall 2026 school year. We hosted 40 new students at the annual academic department orientation session this morning. This orientation session is a targeted welcome meeting where new students meet department faculty, learn about major-specific student groups, and tour the CATS Building...and faculty get to learn a little about our new students as well. Monday we should have a full house in the building. It was a great Day to be a Tiger!!!

Four of the Applied Tech faculty had an opportunity to represent FHSU at the 2026 K-ACTE Career Tech Summit at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park! Eric, Heather, and Kim shared our work on Using AI in CAD Drafting, while Nathan presented on Building a Construction Program. We are proud to showcase the innovative work happening at FHSU Applied Technology and to connect with other career and technical education professionals from across Kansas. Go Tigers!

NEED SOME SUMMER CAD TECS CREDITS???

Mr. Eric Deneault is teaching a Virtual 2 Credit Hour CAD Course offering this Summer

COURSE CODE:
2026U_TECS606_VD_Technology Issues: AutoCAD Set-Ups – For Undergrad Credit
2026U_TECS606G_VD_Technology Issues: AutoCAD Set-Ups – For Grad Credit

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

TECS 606 – AutoCAD Set-Ups is an online course designed to introduce students to the foundational setup and customization features within the AutoCAD environment. Whether students are new to AutoCAD or seeking a professional refresher, the course provides practical instruction focused on developing efficient drafting workflows and industry-standard configurations used across engineering, architectural, civil, and mechanical disciplines.

Students will learn to create and manage title blocks, annotation styles, engineering and metric setups, architectural and civil drafting environments, Google Maps integrations, isometric drawing configurations, viewport layouts, section views, DWG compare functions, and introductory 3D modeling setups. Additional topics include plotting and printing to PDF, workspace customization, layer management, and professional drawing organization.

The course is delivered entirely online through Blackboard learning modules that include recorded tutorials, demonstrations, assignments, and applied activities. Students will progress sequentially through course lessons while developing the technical skills necessary to configure AutoCAD for professional use and produce accurate, organized, and industry-ready technical drawings. The course requires a high level of computer literacy, prior experience working within virtual learning environments, and access to a computer capable of running AutoCAD 2020-2026, preferably on a PC platform. Students will also have the ability to participate in Zoom sessions for troubleshooting and instructional support as needed. Autodesk student software access is available through the Autodesk Education program for eligible students.

A huge THANK YOU to Agiliti of Hays for their incredible generosity and continued partnership with Applied Technology!

We would especially like to recognize Scott Harvey, VP of Manufacturing, Research, and Development, along with John Moore, Cody Escritt, and Jerry Hoffman from Engineering, for donating and delivering two new Bambu H2D 3D Printer/Laser machines. This cutting-edge technology will give our students hands-on experience with some of the newest equipment being used in today’s industries.

What makes this partnership even more special is that John, Cody, and Jerry are all proud graduates of Applied Technology. Seeing our alumni return to invest in the next generation of students speaks volumes about the strength of our program and the support of our local industry partners.

Partnerships like this not only provide advanced learning opportunities inside the classroom, but also help create pathways for student success through mentorships, career connections, and summer internship opportunities with outstanding companies like Agiliti.

Thank you again to Scott Harvey and the entire Agiliti workforce for supporting Applied Technology and helping prepare future industry leaders.

Student Appreciation in the CATS Building!

As the semester comes to a close, it’s time to celebrate and say THANK YOU to our amazing students! Their hard work and willingness to volunteer make so many department activities possible, including events like the Western Kansas Technology Education Fair and countless other projects throughout the year.

We truly rely on our student volunteers, and we appreciate the time, energy, and enthusiasm they bring to every event. To celebrate a fantastic semester, everyone gathered for food, fun, and great conversation together in the CATS Building.

A HUGE thank you goes out to Dawn for organizing and managing the event — she did an AWESOME job making it a success!
