Hey Coffee Creek! The Forestry & Fuels Program at the Watershed Center is recruiting certain residents and landowners within a priority project area of Coffee Creek to begin the environmental compliance process in order to offer future fuels reduction treatments for private property at no cost. Reducing hazardous fuels and improving forest health are key objectives of the Forestry and Fuels Program. To this end, we provide a full range of forest management services from planning to implementation.

🌲 Today’s campers are tomorrow’s stewards. Just look at WRTC’s Heather Murphy, Forestry Division Director, who as a kid came to our summer camp!

For more than 25 years, our Indian Valley Stewardship Camp (IVSC), Youth Conservation Crews (YCC), and Trinity Together programs have connected Trinity County youth with environmental education, mentorship, hands-on work experience, community service, and outdoor adventures.

And the impact lasts: many of our current staff—including leaders like Heather in forestry, fuels, wildlife, and watershed stewardship—got their start at IVSC.

We’re proud to invest in the next generation of stewards and help build a strong local workforce for years to come. 🌿

What does seven years of learning and burning together really add up to?🔥
Seven years after the first Plumas Cal-TREX event, our team took a moment to reflect. Since then, 577 participants have come together through this program— but the impact goes beyond the numbers. The infographic illustrates growing partnerships, strengthened federal engagement, and the connection and stewardship made possible through beneficial fire work.

Join the next Forest Stewardship cohort! Registration is open for the Forest Stewardship Workshop Series, meeting online and in Shasta County starting September 16. Learning materials for this cohort will feature the forest ecology and landowner resources in Shasta and surrounding counties.

Our Forest Stewardship workshop is for landowners and practitioners curious about managing forests for present and future needs. Learn about forest ecology, fire ecology, and forest management- then apply those skills by drafting a personal Forest Management Plan with expert assistance from our team. All participants who complete the workshop also receive a free site visit with a California Registered Professional Forester, CA Certified Burn Boss, or CA Range Manager!

Workshop Details
When: September 16-November 18, 2026. Weekly Zoom meetings 9/16-11/18 (Wednesdays); one optional in-person field day on Sunday, 10/4.
Where: Online and in-person.
Cost: $75, scholarships available by request.

A season to remember for The Watershed Center’s Youth Conservation Corps! ⛏⛰
Our ten YCC youth stewarded 14 sites across Trinity County—rolling logs at Bear Creek, pulling invasives with the Nor-Rel-Muk Wintu Nation, diving with the fisheries team, and many more impactful, community-focused opportunities.

The Watershed Center is extremely proud of this crew and all they accomplished.

🌲 Investing in Trinity County starts with investing in people.

The Watershed Center is proud to be the second-largest private employer in Trinity County. At the height of our 2025 field season, WRTC employed 180 people and contributed $4.32 million in payroll to the county.

Our team includes foresters, botanists, hydrologists, fuels crews, restoration specialists, and the many professionals who keep a mission-driven organization running: from finance and operations to communications, HR, and administration.
