We would like to extend a huge thank you to Charlie Shelton for providing HMS with the U-Haul that helped us capture a memorable staff photo and this little video! As we anxiously look forward to the completion of our new school building, we are so grateful for the people in our community who help us make some fun memories along the way. Thank you, Charlie, for helping us make this one happen!

Parents please take note of the transition to a NEW platform to take place of Remind.

Hello, Clay County Schools families!

This school year, our district is transitioning from Remind to ParentSquare for all school and classroom communication.

If you haven’t registered yet, please check your inbox for an email invitation sent earlier this week with simple setup instructions. If you didn't receive an email, please contact your student's school office so we can update your contact information.

You can also find a helpful Parent Guide on your school's website or at clayschools.org under Resources, then Parents.

Please note that Remind is no longer active, so be sure to use ParentSquare to message teachers, coaches, and staff.

Thank you for your support as we make this transition!

We are proud to share that Jennifer Nachtrieb, computer science teacher at Hayesville Middle School, was recently featured in Prodigy Learning’s Coding in Minecraft North Carolina August 2026 Newsletter.

The Educator Spotlight highlights her success using Coding in Minecraft to engage students while helping them build confidence, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Below is an excerpt from the article that showcases the impact Jennifer is seeing in her classroom:

"For Jennifer, the impact goes far beyond coding skills. One of the outcomes she is most proud of is the positive classroom culture the program creates. "Coding in Minecraft gives everyone the opportunity to contribute and become a leader," she explained. In classes filled with students from different academic levels, social groups, and backgrounds, she has seen learners thrive in unexpected ways. "I have watched students who struggle in traditional classrooms become the coding expert that their classmates rely on," Jennifer said. "The confidence just carries over into other areas of school." Through collaborative projects, students develop leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while exploring how technology can address real-world challenges."

This is a reminder that students entering the 7th grade are required by NC law to have specific immunizations. The 7th grade requirement includes a Tdap and the first dose of Meningococcal conjugate. You can obtain these vaccines from your child's primary care doctor/pediatrician or at the Clay County Health Department.

There will also be an opportunity for your student to get this vaccine at school on Sept 11th during a clinic provided by the Clay County Health Dept. Information and permission forms will be sent home with the packets containing beginning-of-the-year paperwork.
