We received this humbling letter of endorsement from a former Hayden School Board Member. If you have a minute, please read, it is also discusses what the BoE's role is within the school district.
Election day is TOMORROW, have you dropped off your ballot???
"The November election will be a critical opportunity for the Hayden community and School District. The successful completion of the new Pre K-12 School facility and the grant for agriculture education are examples of excellence in the Hayden School District. Academic excellence and staff support are the next steps. With three seats on the Board up for election, there are many qualified, passionate candidates. The opportunity to strengthen the Board and thus the District is at hand.
It is very important to understand the role of the School Board. By State law, a School Board is a policy making body. A Board member is to represent the best interest of every student and staff member. There is no room for an “agenda”. There is no room for micro-managing or interjecting into the day to day decisions. The Board is a high level oversight of the entire District ensuring policies are adhered to and the Superintendent is doing their job. All other hiring, management of personnel and process is up to Administration.
I served 7 years on the Hayden School Board. Throughout my tenure, there was always one community member who was involved. That person is Ryan Wattles. Through good times and challenges, Ryan has been a constant. School Board meetings are typically very lonely. The community rarely attends the meetings unless they don’t like something. Over the years, Ryan was at the meetings, in person, when nobody else was in the room. Throughout all of those years and meeting attendance, Ryan learned and educated himself about the role of the Board, the workings of the District and the education system in the State of Colorado. All the while, without a personal agenda other than the best education for all of the students in the Hayden District.
With 4 children in the District, Ryan has a passion and a purpose. Ryan’s dedication to family and community along with his long time interest in the Hayden School District will serve students, staff and the community in moving forward to academic excellence well into the future. A vote for Ryan Wattles is a vote for all of Hayden!"
