NEBOCES would like to congratulate Nathan Schmidt for his completion of the Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning through CSU Global. Please see the note from Mr. Schmidt below.

"I recently completed my Master of Science in Teaching and Learning - Principal Licensure through the CSU-G program. I am currently a high school math teacher at Merino High School and am finishing up my 16th year in education. My goal has directed me towards becoming a high school principal, and this program gave me a lot of valuable insight from an educational leadership perspective.

One of the main reasons I chose the program was because of the support from Northeast BOCES. Their financial assistance gave me the opportunity to continue my education, and I appreciate them making that possible. Since the program was fully online, I was able to work it around teaching, coaching multiple sports, and family life. There were plenty of late nights and a lot of time management over the past two years, but I am thankful for the experience and the opportunities it has created moving forward.

At the end of the day, it is all about helping students grow, prepare for life after high school, and become good people along the way." - Nathan Schmidt

June 1, Tessa Heller, Northeast BOCES Deaf/Hard of Hearing Teacher, took 11 students on a memorable field trip to the Butterfly Pavilion. The students, ranging from preschool through high school, represented Northeast BOCES exceptionally well throughout the day.

This annual trip provides students with hearing loss the opportunity to meet, connect, and build relationships with peers from across our districts. It is a day filled with learning, exploration, smiles, and, most importantly, friendships.

A special thank you to Julesburg School District for providing transportation, especially driver Rhonda Palic, and to Deb Dickerson and Callie Mendez for generously volunteering their time to support our BOCES students. Their contributions helped make this experience possible and meaningful for all involved.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this day such a success!

Northeast Colorado BOCES is excited to announce Kaylene as the recipient of the 2026 Future Rural Educator Scholarship. Following high school graduation, Kaylene plans to attend Northeastern Junior College to earn an associate degree in Early Childhood Education before transferring to University of Northern Colorado to complete her bachelor’s degree and gain valuable classroom experience.

Kaylene's goal is to become an early childhood teacher because she enjoys helping young children learn, grow, and build confidence. She hopes to return to her hometown to teach and make a positive impact on local students and families. Committed to creating a supportive learning environment where every child feels valued and encouraged to succeed, Kaylene plans to use her education to give back to her community and inspire the next generation of learners. The Future Rural Educator Scholarship will help make her college education more affordable as she pursues these goals.
