Dragon Rescue Management, Inc. DRM, Inc. specializes in Elevator Emergency Management. We are Professionals Training Professionals! All courses are followed up by realistic hands-on training.

The founder spent a decade in the elevator industry in NYC and is a retired Stamford firefighter with 28 years of service. Dragon Rescue Management (DRM) provides the most qualified instructors in the elevator rescue discipline. Our instructors have many years of elevator industry and fire service expertise. They are willing to share their knowledge with compassion, in a judgement free atmosphere, to all personnel that respond to elevator emergencies. We pride ourselves in giving the best classroom and hands-on training available. Working Together

A suggestion I shared a while back with a couple of IUEC Local 91 elevator mechanics, and later posted here, seems to be taking flight.

To the elevator mechanics: Leave your lock open where the FD can find it (see photos). With prior coordination and in accordance with the department’s lockout procedures, we can secure the mainline disconnect with your lock before turning the scene over to you. That saves you from waiting for us to return and remove ours.

A little communication goes a long way. Same goal: keep everyone safe and get the job done.

Doug the elevator mechanic has 22 rules, and he gets right to the point:

Rule #1: “Don’t get dead.”

Hard to argue with that. Tough to finish the service ticket if you violate it. 😂

The other 21? Communicate, slow down, use the right tool, help the next guy, and don’t be too proud to ask a question.

He wraps it up with “Be a gentleman.” Apparently, “Don’t be a knucklehead” was already covered by the first 21.

All kidding aside, there’s a lot of wisdom on this sheet, for elevator mechanics AND firefighters.

HIGH-RISE ELEVATORS: WHAT’S YOUR PLAN IF THE RIDE GOES SIDEWAYS?

In this video. Chief Dunn is discussing what can go wrong when using elevators at high-rise fires, a reminder worth paying attention to.

Before you load up, have an escape plan and the proper tools with you. Make sure your crew knows their assignments and how you’ll communicate if the ride goes sideways.

My suggestion: At your first safety stop, use the “You Are Here” map, if available, to identify the exit stairs and floor layout. If there’s no map, walk the floor and note the stair locations and apartment or room numbering. Floors above often follow a similar layout, but don’t assume they’re identical. Know your way out before you need it.

Once those doors close, that’s a lousy time to find out you’re all on different pages. Have the conversation before you step inside, and at every safety stop.

I’m a little late sharing this, things have been busy, and I owe this news a proper thank you.

FDIC 2027 will be my 22nd year teaching at FDIC, and I’m grateful to be invited back for both hands-on training and a classroom session in Elevator Emergency Management.

A huge thank you to the FDIC Advisory Board for continuing to support this much-needed training for the fire service. You’ve given us a place to teach skills that matter, to the firefighters doing the work and the people counting on them.

Twenty-two years is something I’m proud of. But nobody gets there alone. To my instructors, everyone behind the scenes, and every firefighter who has taken a seat in our classes, thank you. You’re the reason we keep showing up.

I’ve spent a lot of years in the elevator industry and the fire service, and I’m still learning. Being invited back to share that experience is an honor I don’t take lightly.

See you in Indianapolis. We’ve got work to do.

Inspection mode.
P — Proceed when it’s safe to do so.

The tool gives trained personnel the reach to perform these checks before stepping onto the car top. Follow the sequence, after power is secured (LOTO). Don’t skip a step.

As West Whiteland continues to expand, so does our training.

With more apartment buildings and newer technology coming into the area, our crew has to be prepared for every scenario — including elevator emergencies.

Over the weekend, members from Station 6 and Lionville Fire Company participated in an elevator rescue awareness and operations class led by Mike Dragonetti of Dragon Rescue Management. The class focused on safe elevator management during emergencies, proper operating techniques, and the effective extrication of trapped individuals.

What goes up, we make sure it comes down safely. 🚒
