This is our 25th year of Mychal's, a nonprofit dedicated to providing life skills and job training to individuals with developmental disabilities. 💜
We first opened our doors in 2002, leasing a space for our After School Program. Nine years later, thanks to the incredible support of our community and a successful capital campaign, we were able to purchase our current facility in Hawthorne, where our main building stands today. What started with construction, mural painting, and a whole lot of possibility has grown into a space filled with art, amazing people, and opportunities for young adults with developmental disabilities to learn, work, and thrive. In 2013, we launched our Path to Independence Adult Day Program, creating even more opportunities for individuals to build life skills and gain greater independence. Then, in 2016, we launched Howl at the Moon Bakery and Pop-Up. We started by bringing our fresh-baked cookies and lattes made with love to local markets and events. In 2018, that dream grew into our very own food truck, Little Blue. The following year, in 2019, we opened Mychal’s Print & Embroidery, expanding our social enterprises and creating even more opportunities for hands-on vocational training and employment.
Today, those early pop-ups and Little Blue have grown into the brick-and-mortar space you know and love as Mychal’s Café & Bakery. And this August, we’re excited to take another big step forward as Mychal’s Print & Embroidery expands into a larger location!
We are so grateful for everyone we have met along this journey, for the students we do this for, and all of the wonderful experiences and beautiful memories we have gained. Here's to another 25 years!
