If you’ve been following this account for a while, you know I like to wrap-up each trip with a short reflection and a nice thank you to those who made it possible. This trip is no different and, with a long day of travel yesterday, I had a lot of time to sit and reflect.

First off, EF Tours has been consistently good to me when it comes to planning and running these trips. My tour consultant EF Roxy Glasser and experience specialist Savannah have done an amazing job of taking care of all the work behind the scenes and ensuring that I have absolutely no concerns whenever I go somewhere. That confidence and worry-free experience is invaluable on these trips, and I’m so grateful to both of them for getting me to that point.

Our tour guide in Peru, Sally, deserves all the praise possible for how well she managed my group on this trip. Aside from sharing her passion and knowledge for Peru, she always made sure our group was well taken care of and staying healthy in the high altitudes and varying temperatures. It’s obvious that these tours are not just a career for her, but a way for her to inspire and instill that same passion in young people, and she did a phenomenal job at it.

Sally made an interesting comment on our lost night in Peru: only 20% of the world’s population spends time traveling to other countries. Looking around at the group I had, it was uplifting to be able to include so many students in that small percentage. Seeing them step out of their comfort zones is something I always enjoy on these trips, and they never shy away from trying different foods, walking endless miles each day, and learning new things. It also feels great to know I had a few students who have now seen two of the seven World Wonders with me; how many high schoolers can say that?!

Ensuring these students have a great time and leave with a desire to travel more is one of my main goals on these trips, and I can’t wait to continue that with more destinations down the line. If you are a parent of an upcoming TAG student, or you’re someone who just wants to travel more, please reach out. I’d love to help more people get in that 20%!

I’ll be sorting the many pictures and creating our tour video for Peru soon so we can share our entire adventure one more time, then it’s straight into thinking about Amsterdam and Paris! As always, thank you for the continued support for me, my program, and my students. Hopefully, from these posts, it’s clear why that support is so important and appreciated!

Currently sitting in Dallas waiting to board our last plane for Omaha! It’s been a long day of travel and we are excited to get back home this evening.

As per my usual anxious self, I spend the week leading up to the next TAG trip worried about many things, including what our tour guide will be like and if my group will do well with whoever is in charge of us.

Meeting Sally not only calmed every anxious feeling I had, but made me and my group excited for every day we were lucky to be with her in Peru. Her passion for her culture and the pride she feels for her home country was evident and we learned so much being around her. The extra opportunities she provided our group were also incredibly memorable and we were so thankful for the extra mile she was willing to go for us.

Thank you Sally for giving us the opportunity to not only enjoy your country, but to be around your generosity, friendliness, and positivity. Our Peru adventures would not have been the same without you. Tupananchiskama!

Our last full day in Peru was a busy one! We started out by going to a local nonprofit organization that serves as a school for the community’s children. After learning about their school we got to meet some of the children and got them to sign our shirts that we purchased. Great experience learning about the organization (CooperarPeru if you’d like to learn more).

Then it was on to a local market where the groups competed in a scavenger hunt before taking time to shop and browse through all the vendors. After lunch it was free time in the city square where we got shop, have ice cream, and get all our steps in!

Our tour guide Sally then provided us with a surprise: dance lessons. We learned how to salsa, cha-cha, and step out of our comfort zones! Then we had a delicious supper before returning to our hotel.

Now we are busy packing and getting ready for our long day of flights tomorrow!

Today we headed back on the train to Cusco. Once we got on the bus, we drove to the market where we had a chance to talk to silver artisans and learn more about their craft.

After a little free time shopping in the artisan market, we headed to the Sacsayhuaman Fortress where we got a tour from a local guide and got a chance to take lots of pictures overlooking the city of Cusco.

We then headed to a little chocolate factory for some learning, taste testing, and shopping. After that we checked into our hotel, had supper, and relaxation time for the night.

One more full day of adventures tomorrow!
