Here is Aclivity Sensitivity… an original song by Retrograde!

I am so thankful to be helping students create their own original music all these years and then to enjoy the songs because they end up so awesome like this one!

This Saturday catch our youth bands at the Here is The Wisps playing their original song “Starlit Eyes” 👀🌌

They wrote this song for Earth Day!

Here are some pf the words: “the sun and the moon make light and dark, my starlit eyes gleam at dawn”

Our bands play at Railroad Square from 2 to 3 PM, come by and cheer them on with me.

“Summertime” from the opera Porgy & Bess was my grandfather’s favorite song and since he was a veteran I chose to learn it for Memorial Day.

I’m playing it more like Billie Holiday’s version which was his favorite singer. Listen to her version, she’s incredible, I couldn’t even try to copy her rhythmic approach to the melody so I kept it simple.

I’m tuned in an unusual way to be able to fit the piece on the guitar. It took me three days to get good at it and even then my takes would be filled with string squeaks lol, this one still has a bunch.

This is what playing an instrument is like. You find a song that you love then you learn to play it on your instrument. Hopefully you share it and hopefully at least one person will enjoy it. Much love and keep creating and remembering passed veterans and family.

Here is The Wisps playing Stand by Me at Kids Fest!

Retrograde’s lead singer stood in for The Wisps lead singer who was in a musical that day.

They did such a great job playing this beautiful song!

Great tempo and feel by the drummer, bass player knows the line so well and holds everyone together, guitar is in great tune and played at the perfect times, and the vocal was sung with feeling and care. Awesome.

Original song “Reborn” by Retrograde at Kidsfest this weekend!

The music for this track was written by the guitar player who is really the only member of the band that is super into this heavy style.

The melody & lyrics for this song were written by the singer. Her lyrics are so mysterious and descriptive… then she creates these fantastic melodies to fit them into the style.

The whole band is such a tight unit when they play this track.

I always find that when kids play something they make up themselves they excel far more than when they play cover songs….. and you can tell they have more fun.
