This week, we had the privilege of recognizing a teacher, who truly represents the heart of Havelock Elementary.
Mrs. Baker has a heart for children, and everything she does is rooted in wanting what is best for them. Her commitment to our school, our students, and our staff is second to none. She holds her students to high expectations because she sees their potential, even when they may not see it in themselves. She constantly reminds them of who they can be and teaches lessons that go far beyond academics—lessons her students will carry with them long after they leave her classroom.
Mrs. Baker is also someone who makes Havelock a better place for the people around her. She is thoughtful, she takes care of others, and she is always willing to advocate for what is best for our students and staff. She has stepped into leadership roles and has used her voice and experience to make a difference.
She also has a way of making us laugh and reminding us to have fun along the way. Even in some of the toughest situations, Mrs. Baker perseveres. She shows up, finds a way forward, and continues giving her best to her students.
Perhaps, one of the greatest things Mrs. Baker gives our school is the reminder of why we chose this profession in the first place. In the midst of standards, assessments, and all of the demands that come with teaching, she reminds us of our true purpose as educators: to love our students. To see them, to believe in them, to challenge them, and to make sure they know that they matter. Mrs. Baker lives that purpose every day.
Her impact on Havelock Elementary cannot be measured simply by test scores, or years of service. It can be seen in the children she has encouraged, the colleagues she has supported, the laughter she has brought into our building, and the countless lives she has touched.
Havelock Elementary simply would not be the same without her.
It is our honor to recognize and celebrate Havelock Elementary School’s 2026–2027 Teacher of the Year… Mrs. Baker!
