Lesson 5 of our Fish Tales series 🎣
Tonight’s lesson focused on what to do when our efforts keep producing empty nets: keep casting but make sure we are doing it God’s way instead of relying on our own.
Sometimes we overthink sharing the gospel and miss the power of simply sharing the truth. We may skip over people because we assume they will not listen, or we may push too hard on someone whose heart is not ready.
Our responsibility is to faithfully cast the net. God is responsible for the results.
Keep planting seeds. Keep sharing the truth. Keep showing Christ through your words and actions and trust God with the harvest.
“Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” — Luke 5:5 ESV

39 DAYS TO GO! 🎣🔥
We’re officially 39 days away from the 2026 DOUSA NC Old Drum Tournament!
An event like this simply wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our guides, volunteers, sponsors, and donors who step up year after year to help us give our participants the opportunity to chase a North Carolina old drum of a lifetime.
Today, we want to recognize David Fladd, co-owner of Eye Strike Fishing and founder of Release Over 20 for his continued support of this event. David has supported the DOUSA NC Old Drum Tournament not only this year, but in previous years as well.
His passion for our fisheries, conservation, and getting people on the water makes him a great friend of this event and our fishing community.
David, thank you for continuing to support DOUSA and helping us make these unforgettable days on the water possible!
🎣 39 days and counting. The old drum are waiting.

So thankful for the many that help support the DOUSA NC Red Drum event it wouldn’t be possible without such an awesome community from guides, tackle shops and many donars. I’m truly grateful to be able to be a small part of such a impactful event. It’s humbling and inspiring to guide for this event.

🎣 Three events. Three states. Plenty of reasons to get on the water.

Release Over 20 has some exciting events coming up this fall, from South Carolina to North Carolina and all the way to the Mississippi Gulf Coast!

Whether you’re competing, supporting a great cause or simply passionate about protecting the fisheries we all enjoy, we’d love to have you be part of what’s ahead.

Hot afternoon, big reward on the Neuse! 🎣☀️
Had a trip this afternoon with a couple of ladies from church and one of their grandkids. We got off to a little bit of a late start after base PMO got pretty excited about where I had docked 😂, but about 30 minutes later we were finally on our way.
We headed out to the river, found what little wind we could, and set up shop. The boys took turns casting while bait was getting worked all around us. Then BANG! The reel started screaming.
Got Keaton on the stick, and he went to work. He stayed patient, worked that fish hard and steady, and eventually won the battle.
His first old drum! 🔥
That never gets old. Watching someone feel the power of one of these fish for the first time is one of my favorite parts of being on the water. We got a measurement, put a tag in her, grabbed a quick picture, and watched her swim off strong. Release Over 20
The kids probably made a few hundred more casts trying to find another one, but it just wasn’t happening. We finished with a 16-inch red, a 24-inch red, and the tank.
Not bad at all for an extremely hot August afternoon. As the sun started dropping, the temperature finally got comfortable and the bite seemed like it was starting to warm up, but we had a curfew to beat back in.
One big fish was all we needed anyway.
Another first old drum on the Neuse and another memory that’ll be hard to beat. 🎣🤙

Fish Tales Summer Series | Lesson 4 🎣🙏
Another great night for our Fish Tales Men’s Summer Series! We wrapped up Lesson 4 and then took the fellowship from the lesson to the water.
Frank, Damion, and I headed out on the Neuse for a little fishing afterward. It was one of those beautiful Eastern NC nights: calm water, stars shining bright overhead, good conversation, and thankfully, a few fish decided to come out and play too giving us 5 for Release Over 20 . 🎣🌌
These nights are what Fish Tales is all about. Growing in God’s Word, building stronger friendships, and enjoying the outdoors He created.
Faith. Fellowship. Fishing. Hard to beat that combination.
