We were pleased to welcome U.S. Congresswoman Rep. Sylvia Garcia to our Houston corporate office, where she met with U.S. Region President Jesus Gonzalez and Vice President of Public Affairs Cathy Mann.

We discussed Congresswoman Garcia’s legislative priorities, Cemex’s work across her district and our shared commitment to worker safety, economic opportunity and stronger communities. We also expressed our appreciation for her advocacy on behalf of the Hispanic American community and look forward to continuing the conversation and welcoming her to one of our operations soon.

Know your rights as a miner.

Every miner has the right to effective health and safety training, to report safety or health concerns, and to raise concerns about unsafe conditions without fear of retaliation.

Under the Mine Act, an employer cannot retaliate against a miner for exercising these rights. Retaliation may include firing, reducing pay or hours, denying overtime or promotion, or taking other discriminatory action.

Would you let your child become an underground coal miner?

For many mining families, that question cuts deeper than outsiders understand.

Coal has paid mortgages, built communities and given generations a solid living. Underground miners can earn strong wages, develop skills and form crew bonds few workplaces match.

But parents know what waits beyond the gate.

Roof falls, machinery, long shifts, emergencies and long-term health issues are never completely removed, no matter how much technology and safety have improved. Every shift carries a risk most parents would rather their children avoid.

Would you feel proud watching your son or daughter follow the family tradition? Would the pay and opportunities outweigh the worry? Or would you push them toward another trade, even if mining gave your family everything it has?

⚠️ Safety Alert: Aging Impoundments

Many mining impoundments have been in service for decades, and changing conditions, increased precipitation, and deferred maintenance can raise the risk of failure.

Regular evaluation and proactive maintenance are critical to protecting miners, nearby communities, and the environment.

Macmahon has secured A$485 million of additional work at Western Australia’s Telfer gold mine under a 42-month contract extension.

Greatland Resources awarded the agreement to Macmahon Contractors, extending a relationship at the Pilbara operation that began in 2015.

The renewed contract covers an increase in activity at West Dome Stage 7. Macmahon will handle the full mining package, including drilling and blasting, loading, hauling and related operational services as material movements rise.

For Macmahon, the award protects a stream of contracted revenue while keeping its workforce and equipment active at one of Australia’s best-known gold and copper operations. More than a decade of work at Telfer also gives the contractor detailed knowledge of the site, its mining conditions and production requirements.

Greatland acquired Telfer from Newmont in late 2024. The extension now gives the new owner longer-term mining support as it pushes ahead with the next phase of the operation.

Every seven days, Western Australia’s Pilbara performs one of mining’s largest logistical operations, moving roughly 18 million tonnes of iron ore from inland pits to ships bound for overseas steel mills.

The latest state data show Western Australia exported 926 million tonnes in the year to March 2026. That equals 17.8 million tonnes weekly, with the Pilbara supplying the majority and stronger weeks pushing beyond 18 million.

The operation begins across vast inland mining hubs run by Rio Tinto, BHP, Fortescue, Roy Hill and smaller producers. Ore is blasted, loaded, crushed and blended before trains stretching two kilometres carry it hundreds of kilometres to the coast.

There, Port Hedland, Dampier and Cape Lambert operate like giant conveyor systems. Stockyards blend different grades, reclaimers feed the wharves and loaders pour thousands of tonnes into bulk carriers every hour. Rio’s Dampier terminals alone load approximately three vessels daily.

Scale explains the weekly figure. Rio shipped 326.2 million tonnes from the Pilbara in 2025. BHP produced a record 291.2 million tonnes in FY2026, while Fortescue shipped 201.3 million tonnes.

Add Roy Hill and other operations, and the result is an industrial supply chain that rarely stops, because global steelmaking heavily depends on it.
