Last but not least, we are excited to introduce Sylvia White! Sylvia is a senior Conservation Biology major with a Chemistry minor from Watson, Louisiana. 🌿🧪

Outside of Southern Style, Sylvia is a student-athlete on the Southern Miss T&F, XC team as well as a variety of different organizations! Whether it be the College Panhellenic Council or being a part of the Honors College, her involvements have helped her build lifelong friendships, strengthened her confidence, and helped her learn the importance of being a strong support system for others.

Next up, Teddy Washington! From Brookhaven, Mississippi, Teddy is a junior Communications major. 📻

Teddy’s favorite spot on campus is Spirit Park because it brings people together and fosters a sense of community! Whether students are heading to class, attending a SouthernMissActivitiesCouncil event, or just spending time outside, he loves how it creates a space for connection and excitement.

Teddy, you are already doing an amazing job and we are so excited to spend the rest of the summer with you!

Meet Lane Trosclair! Lane is a junior Speech Pathology and Audiology major from Gulfport, Mississippi. 👂

Lane’s favorite thing about Southern Miss is the balance it offers - a large university experience that still feels close to home, with a community where students have the chance to truly know one another.

As a legacy of a proud Southern Miss family, Lane hopes to ensure that every incoming student feels welcomed and at home during orientation.

Introducing Lani Taylor, a junior Speech Pathology and Audiology major from Meridian, Mississippi. 👂

Lani chose Southern Miss because of the opportunities it offered and the way it made her feel truly seen from the very beginning! From the moment she stepped on campus, she knew she was more than just a number, and her orientation experience and the friendships she formed only confirmed that this was the place for her.

We are excited for you to meet Steven Jacob Tatum this summer! Jacob is a Junior Polymer Science and Engineering major from Pearl, Mississippi. 🥼

Outside of Southern Style, Jacob is involved in Fraternity and Sorority Life, Luckyday, and the Student Government Association, where he has grown as a leader and found ways to give back to campus. He cannot wait to show you different ways to grow and connect at Southern Miss!

Meet Scarlett Scott, a junior Psychology major from Mobile, Alabama. 📚

Scarlett’s biggest piece of advice for incoming students is simple: go for it. She encourages students to take that step, whether it’s applying for a scholarship, joining an organization, or introducing themselves to someone new. Scarlett believes that putting yourself out there can lead to incredible experiences!

From Meridian, Mississippi, Isaiah Rios is our next spotlight for this year’s Southern Style team! He is a sophomore Biomedical Sciences major. 🧬

Isaiah’s favorite thing about Southern Miss is its size, which allows students to build meaningful connections with faculty, staff, and classmates while still meeting new people every day! He appreciates how this creates a close-knit, personal experience while still giving students room to grow and get involved.

We’re pleased to announce our next Southern Style member, DaNya Richard! She is a junior Elementary Education major from Lafayette, Louisiana. 🌟

DaNya’s biggest piece of advice for incoming students is to stay open to new experiences and don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone! She encourages students to build relationships, ask for help when they need it, and embrace the growth that comes with their first year at Southern Miss.

Meet Ava Parker! Ava is a sophomore from Meridian, Mississippi, double-majoring in Psychology and Sociology! ✨

Ava has wanted to serve on Southern Style since her own orientation, where she looked up to her leaders and the impact they had on her.
