Welcoming Our Teacher Education Candidates

Tuesday was a special day in the William Carey University College of Education as we officially welcomed our newest candidates into the Teacher Education Program!
Our theme verse for the ceremony was Romans 12:7, reminding us of the importance of using our gifts to serve and teach others. Dr. Jennifer Lowery, College of Education Curriculum and Instruction Chair, opened our time with the scripture reading.
Dr. Poole, Dean of the College of Education, shared the address, “Answering the Call to Teach.” Her words reminded our students that teaching is much more than a career—it is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children every single day.
One of the most meaningful moments of the ceremony came when our teacher education candidates stood together and responded to the Charge to Teacher Education Students. Each candidate then received their official acceptance into the Teacher Education Program.
Dr. Cochran, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, closed this special time with a prayer of blessing and commissioning over our future educators.
We are also thankful for everyone who helped make this event special. Thank you to Dr. Weiss for sharing her musical talents on the piano and to our Hattiesburg College of Education faculty, Mrs. Cochran, Dr. Gammill, and Dr. West, for supporting and celebrating our students. A very special thank you to our College of Education Administrative Assistant, Glenda Beck, for all of her help organizing the event.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to WCU's MPE student who chapter provided refreshments in the lobby of the new College of Education building for new teacher education candidates and their guests following the Chapel Service.
Most of all, CONGRATULATIONS to our Teacher Education Candidates! We are so proud of each of you and excited to watch you continue your journey toward becoming educators.

You have answered the call. Now go make a difference!
“If it is teaching, then teach.” — Romans 12:7

Welcome Back, Crusaders!

The William Carey College of Education is excited to welcome our students back to campus as we begin the 2026–2027 academic year!

We are especially excited to welcome our students to our new home in Fail/Asbury, located next to the President’s home. This new space is a wonderful place for our faculty and students to learn, grow, connect, and prepare to serve others through the calling of education.

As we begin this new school year, we are praying for God’s blessings upon every student, faculty member, and staff member. May this be a year filled with growth, purpose, success, and opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others.

“Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” — Proverbs 16:3 (KJV)

If you get a chance, come by and see our new home. We would love to welcome you!

Welcome back, Crusaders! It is definitely a great day to be a Crusader!
