Look out all, ATRP has more good news!

Congratulations to Clinical Psychology PhD students Aleks Karnick (PI), Nicole Caulfield (Co-I), and Allie Bond (Co-I) along with Dr. Capron (Co-I) were awarded a $5,500 external research grant from the New Jersey Center for Gun Violence Research!

The grant will pay for access to the Statewide Planning and Research Cooperative System dataset that will allow the research team to conduct geographically weighted analyses related to su***de.

Congratulations to ATRP third-year student Nikki Caulfield (and mentor Dr. Capron) who has been awarded a $2,000 dissertation grant from the Military Su***de Research Consortium! 🎉🎉

Nikki’s project is titled “A Network Analysis Examining Dissociation and Su***de Risk in Military Veterans” and will investigate how dissociation relates to su***de risk in a sample of military veterans by utilizing a novel statistical approach called comparative network analysis. This study aims to compare pathways of dissociation and suicidal ideation in veterans with low levels and high levels of dissociation while also considering relevant covariates such as depression, PTSD, and capability for su***de. It has the potential to provide clinical recommendations for the treatment of individuals experiencing dissociation who may not benefit from traditional ESTs for PTSD and depression because of increased disconnect from the body. Additionally, this study may show that dissociation is a crucial transdiagnostic risk factor for su***de risk that should be assessed independently from common psychiatric disorders associated with su***de risk in veterans, such as PTSD and depression.
