🏡✨ Move That Bus... OT Style! ✨🏡

Our Occupational Therapy students recently stepped into the role of home-modification specialists for a hands-on, home-renovation show-inspired learning experience!

Working within a realistic budget, student teams completed a mock home renovation project designed to promote client independence, safety, and participation in daily activities. Using occupational therapy principles, they assessed barriers in the home environment and developed creative adaptations and reorganizations tailored to their client's needs.

Students showcased their renovation plans through professional PowerPoint mood boards, detailed budget proposals, and evidence-based recommendations. The project culminated in an exciting home renovation show-style final reveal, where teams presented their transformed spaces and demonstrated how thoughtful environmental modifications can empower clients to live more safely and independently.

This activity highlighted the important role occupational therapists play in helping individuals thrive in their own homes through environmental adaptation, problem-solving, and client-centered intervention

Our William Carey University Master of Occupational Therapy students had a wonderful time serving at the AIM (Ability Inclusive Ministry) Vacation Bible School, hosted by The Social Club of Laurel!

Each student was paired with a buddy, spending the morning participating in arts and crafts, games, play, and meaningful social interactions. It was a joy to watch friendships grow while celebrating the unique abilities of every participant.

Experiences like these provide our students with invaluable opportunities to develop their therapeutic use of self, communication skills, and understanding of inclusive community participation, all while serving others with compassion and purpose.

Thank you to the Social Club of Laurel and everyone involved in making this special event possible. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn, serve, and share the love of Christ with our community. ❤️

Our Master of Occupational Therapy students recently participated in an intraprofessional learning experience with Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) students from Pearl River Community College.

Through collaborative discussions and case-based activities, students explored the unique and complementary roles of occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants. Experiences like these help strengthen teamwork, communication, and professional collaboration with essential skills for providing exceptional patient-centered care.

We are grateful for opportunities to partner with fellow occupational therapy programs and prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals for success in the field. ❤️🖤

🌟 Occupational Therapy Bridge Student Highlight 🌟

Meet Laura Stringer 👩‍⚕️✨

Discover why Laura chose William Carey University's OT Bridge Program and what she loves most about the experience!

Why did you choose the OT Bridge Program?
I am so excited to be a part of the first class of OT Bridge students here! I live close to Hattiesburg, and pursuing a bridge program out of state was not an option for me. This program provided the opportunity I needed to continue my education close to home.

What do you like most about Carey's OT Bridge Program?
The instructors and faculty truly care about their students. Their support, encouragement, and dedication have helped me achieve my goal of earning my master's degree at 38.

What do you enjoy most about Occupational Therapy?
I enjoy helping people achieve their goals. From congenital disabilities to orthopedic and sports-related injuries, it is incredibly rewarding to watch patients work hard and reach milestones that are meaningful to them.

How will becoming an Occupational Therapist impact your career?
As an Occupational Therapist, I will be able to evaluate patients, help establish treatment goals, and guide the therapy process from the very beginning. I'm excited to take on a larger role in helping patients succeed and improve their quality of life.
