Concrete Pressure Pipe (CPP) is designed for specific internal pressures and external stresses, with features like secure rubber-gasketed joints for water tightness. CPP is manufactured in longer lengths, which provides fewer joints. With mandated and more stringent water quality standards to design conveyance systems with low infiltration/exfiltration characteristics, CPP is an excellent solution for sewer installations. Long lifecycle Which Lasts Longer?
Concrete:
✔ Properly installed and maintained, lasts *75–100 years
✔ Highly resistant to corrosion
✔ Proven durability in water and sewer systems with minimal maintenance
Steel:
✔ *Today’s Ductile Iron Pipe is designed for 50 years’ service life - if properly coated and protected
✖ Requires cathodic protection systems
✖ Needs ongoing monitoring and maintenance
✖ Without these measures, steel is vulnerable to corrosion, shortening its service life.
Best installed value for municipalities over time compared to materials that may require more frequent attention or earlier replacement cycles.

Concrete Pressure Pipe (CPP) rarely requires cathodic protection because the alkalinity of Portland cement provides corrosion protection. CPP can be installed in most natural environments, making it a sustainable solution. Find out more about External Protection of CPP at: https://bit.ly/4kGYa50
