Parking Ticket Forgiveness Day is an annual event hosted by SGA and Parking and Transit Services, where eligible University of Southern Mississippi Students can exchange qualifying tickets, such as Parking in the wrong zone and a non-visible license plate, for fifteen (15) non-perishable canned goods.

The Senate and the President of the Student Government Association have approved Senate Resolution 1 of the Spring 2026 Session. This resolution establishes an annual “Parking Ticket Forgiveness Day”

Apply to be the Clerk of the Senate!
The Clerk of the Senate is responsible for recording the meeting minutes of regular Senate sessions, attendance, and voting records. They also submit records of student polling or survey data to the Secretary of the Student Government Association.

The Director of Policy serves as an advisor to the President on all matters of policy, governing documents of the Student Government Association, state and federal law, university policy, and all activities of the Senate. They will also draft and recommend legislation to the Senate.

They will assist in the planning of University traditions like Homecoming, Lighting the Way for the Holidays, the Miss University of Southern Mississippi Scholarship Competition, and any other SGA events.

The Parliamentarian provides parliamentary procedural advice to those in the legislative branch. They are also responsible for ensuring every bill or resolution is authored in accordance with the rules of the Senate
and guidelines set by the President of the Senate.

The Senate is the legislative branch of the Student Government Association. They advocate for the needs of the student body. These appointed individuals are responsible for writing legislations that improve the student experience and life at Southern Miss.
Applications are open for seats in the College of Education and Human Sciences, the College of Business and Economic Development, and the College of Nursing and Health Professions.

The Office of the Secretary is responsible for maintaining the organization, communication, and documentation of the Student Government Association. This includes recording and publishing official records, managing archives and social media, coordinating events and outreach, and ensuring transparency across all branches.

Election commission applications are open now! An election commissioner provides insight and jurisdiction over all actions on elections for SGA. Election commission is a great opportunity to be able to connect with the student body through homecoming elections and spring elections. The election commission works close with the Chief Justice to provide fair and equal elections.
