Thames Elementary School

Our 1st graders are learning about their community through an exciting class project! They’re working together, sharing ideas, and discovering what makes a community special. We love seeing their creativity and teamwork in action!

Thank you to everyone who attended Open House! We truly appreciate your time, support, and willingness to work together. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate and look forward to all we can accomplish together!

Ms. Harrison’s 3rd grade Math students were learning that there’s more than one way to represent a number!

She created 4 stations using base-ten blocks. Each set represented 653, but the place-value blocks were arranged differently at each station. Students rotated through the stations and had to determine the value of each set.

The best part? Students began noticing the pattern on their own! One group said, “I think they are all the same number, but in different ways!” Another group made the same discovery.

That’s the power of hands-on learning—students discovering the math for themselves!

Capturing Kids' Hearts is a relationship-building program that helps schools create safe, connected environments where students feel valued and empowered. Through intentional practices, it nurtures social-emotional growth and strengthens connections between students, educators, and families.

August/September Character Trait: Empathy

As we begin the school year, our focus for August and September is Empathy — the ability to understand and be sensitive to others' feelings. Empathy encourages children to care deeply, listen actively, and respond with compassion.
This month, we’re partnering with families to help students grow in empathy both at school and at home.

Celebrate Differences – Discover what makes each family member unique and how those differences make you stronger together.
Build a Family Social Contract – Create shared values like kindness and respect.
Be the Light – Write notes of appreciation to people who brighten your day.
