The USM Student SHRM Chapter seeks Officers to serve the organization for the 2015-16 academic year. If you think you may be interested in serving, please review the 'Roles' document at the Dropbox link below. If after reading that information you want to apply, please send the following information to Dr. Bruce Gilstrap via email ([email protected]) before Friday, September 4th:
1. Your current resume
2. The title of the position for which you want to be considered
3. A statement of interest explaining why you are seeking the position and why you would be good at it
Put all this information in a single Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF file (named as follows: 'SHRM President Lastname Firstname' - substitute the office for which you are applying for 'President' in the preceding example).
Top candidates will be invited to an interview during the week of September 7-11.

This article about the legality of personality testing in the employment process appeared earlier this week. Although not all of the tests discussed in the article are actually tests of personality, there is good information here: these tests are being used more and more, they are being used earlier in the screening process to eliminate the least-qualified candidates, and legal challenges regarding their use are increasing on the grounds that their use may be discriminatory. Interesting...
Are workplace personality tests fair? The use of online personality tests by employers has surged in the past decade as they try to streamline the hiring process.
Our first SHRM meeting of the semester will take place tomorrow in Joseph Greene Hall room 216 at 12:15 p.m. Spread the word!

What are you doing to prepare to enter a job market in which employers expect you to be job-ready from the first day?
Where Did All the Entry-Level Jobs Go? Entry-level work isn't what it used to be. Some firms have cut entry-level jobs. And others have raised the bar for new graduates, expecting them to arrive job-ready from day one.
