Our School of Marketing students put their creative skills to work through Academic Service-Learning projects supported by the Center for Community Engagement.
In Professor Stoner's MKT 322 Creative Marketing course, students partnered with the Institute for Disability Studies (IDS) and its EARN IT Program to craft a coffee advent calendar featuring 24 different roasts, with original artwork and packaging created entirely in-house. This student-led project serves as both a fundraiser for IDS and EARN IT and a powerful showcase of student skill, creativity, and dedication to learning.
Huge congratulations to all students who earned their Service-Learning Certificate this semester! Your work is making a difference in the community and shaping your future careers! ๐

The first official Sales Week at Southern Miss was the epitome of experiential learning! Students participated in elevator pitches, team-sell competitions, professional development workshops, and a networking dinner with corporate partners.
Check out some of the shots we captured during the Senior Sales Challenge, where students brought what theyโve been learning in the classroom to a live, high-pressure, high-reward environment! The top-scoring students collectively walked away with $2,500 in prize money. ๐ฐ
Special thank you to alumni Logan Miller โ23 and Anna Grace Gieger โ23 for returning to campus to serve as team buyers during the finals.

Our Faculty Spotlight for this month is Dr. Tran! ๐
Dr. Tran joined USM in 2016, equipping students with knowledge in Consumer Behavior, Integrated Marketing Communications, and Honors Thesis.
In case you missed it, here are a couple of fun facts about Dr. Tran:
Her hidden talent is snowboarding; sheโs shredded snow from Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia to Keystone and Breckenridge in Colorado. Her go-to coffee order is a Rum Brown Sugar latte from Bright Eye in Ocean Springs (extra hot, of course). Her all-time comfort food is Vietnamese noodle soup, Phแป, which she describes as "a hug in a bowl.โ Her favorite book is Little Women by Louisa May Alcott: "It explores identity, ambition, and staying true to your values." Each character defines success differently, which resonates with how I view personal and professional growth."
Thank you, Dr. Tran, for the wisdom you bring to our students and community. ๐ฆ

These students spent the semester creating their own unique mocktail concepts as part of the Food and Beverage Operations course, taught by Dr. Wendi McLain. The five finalists teamed up with their peers to bring their drinks to life for judges and classmates. The event was planned and led by the class, giving them experience in event planning, ingredient sourcing, and guest experience.
"The Scarlett Horse," created by Kinsey Brewer and inspired by the 2026 Year of the Fire Horse, earned the overall win and recognition for best hospitality experience!
