Created through a partnership between the Mississippi Aquarium, Southern Miss School of Ocean Science and Engineering researchers, Mississippi Gulf Coast high school students and other local collaborators, the interactive exhibit turns materials collected during local beach cleanups into works of art.⁠

Toxic Beauty is included with aquarium admission and will be on display through Labor Day, Sept. 7.⁠

Southern Miss alumna Keisha Green (’20) has built an award-winning career in television, earning multiple Mississippi Association of Broadcasters Awards and, most recently, a Southeast Emmy Award for her work as producer of The Best of Late Night with Rita Brent.

A graduate of the School of Media and Communication, Green credits many of the mentors and experiences she had at Southern Miss with helping prepare her for the career she has today.

Southern Miss students designed and built their own autonomous underwater vehicle, advancing to the semifinal round at the 2026 RoboSub Competition in Irvine, California, where they also earned a BlueRobotics Award for innovation.

Competing against 58 teams from nine countries, Southern Miss was the only Mississippi team at this year's international competition and advanced to the semifinals in its first year competing.

Ten undergraduate students from colleges and universities across Mississippi, including four Southern Miss students, recently completed the Mississippi Digital Humanities Hub's six-week Summer Residency at Southern Miss!

Hosted by the Mississippi Digital Humanities Hub in the School of Humanities, the residency gave students the opportunity to create public-facing digital projects while exploring how technology can help preserve, interpret and share Mississippi's history.
