Tarbi Pyakurel, an International student ambassador, shared his adventurous road trip this summer🚗:

"I went on a road trip this summer. It started with a flight from Hattiesburg to Rochester, New York. Before the trip began, hiking along wonderful waterfalls at Watkins Glen and visiting the Niagara Falls was amazing.
Rochester, New York ---> Austin, Texas
First, we reached Cincinnati, Ohio, to check out Jungle Jims International Market. This place is huge and has a variety of international items. We stayed the night there.
We travelled from Cincinnati along Kentucky, finally reaching and staying a night in Memphis, Tennessee.
Next, we drove through Arkansas to Fort Worth(lots of trucks on that highway) and stayed a night there, finally reaching Austin, the capital of Texas.
I went all the way from New York to Texas. It was a trip to relax, see new things, and get ready for school at USM."

Intl Student Ambassador Eduardo Hernandez Escobar shared one of his favorite hikes in El Salvador, Santa Ana Volcano. 🌋

"El Salvador has more than a dozen volcanoes throughout its landscape. The three peaks that are seen in one of the pictures from the bottom are Izalco Volcano, Cerro Verde, and Santa Ana Volcano. Izalco Volcano is an active volcano and one of the youngest in Central America (it was created in the 1700s); its last eruption was in 1966. Cerro Verde is an inactive volcano, but it is a national park, and you can access both hikes to Izalco and Santa Ana from there. Lastly, Santa Ana Volcano is also an active volcano and the highest volcano in El Salvador with a peak of 2,381 meters (7,812 ft). Santa Ana Volcano had its last eruption in 2005. One thing that makes Santa Ana Volcano attractive for tourists is its lake inside the crater; the lake has sulfur and copper that make it a turquoise color.
The hike from Santa Ana Volcano starts in Cerro Verde, and it takes about 1.5 hours to reach the peak and 1 hour to get back to the national park.
From the pictures you can see El Salvador's landscape including Izalco Volcano, Cerro Verde, Santa Ana Volcano's lake, and even Coatepeque Lake (another volcano!).
El Salvador is such a small country that allows you to travel from mountain and cooler regions down to the coast and hotter areas in the same day. From the video, you might even be able to see the Pacific Ocean if you look closely in the back.
El Salvador is also pretty close to the U.S., so you can travel there in almost half a day. If you're admitted to USM and are looking for vacation options, I'd love to share more information about El Salvador!"

- "I've been to a lot of restaurants in Hattiesburg, but nothing feels as authentic as Super Tacos. This Mexican food truck sits on West 4th Street, a short drive from USM. I order the pollo a la plancha every time. They serve it with refried beans, rice, a juicy grilled chicken breast, and grilled habaneros and onions on the side. The habaneros bring real heat, so come ready for spice. The flavors and the vibe combine beautifully. Every dish tastes fresh and mouth-watering. The truck offers outdoor seating, so you can enjoy your meal in the open air. The workers stay friendly and quick to help with orders. It sits right across from a laundromat too. You can eat great food while doing your laundry. Two birds, one stone."

⚾ My summer kicked off by cheering on the Southern Miss Golden Eagles during the NCAA Hattiesburg Regional, and it only got better from there! Attending baseball games throughout the summer became one of my favorite ways to experience the incredible school spirit and welcoming community that make Southern Miss so special. From exciting game-day moments to making memories with friends, every game reminded me why I love being part of the Southern Miss family. Here's to an unforgettable summer filled with baseball, community, and Golden Eagle pride! 💛🦅

Meet Areeb Shaukat, a returning Student Ambassador 🎾:

Serving as first the Vice President and then the President of the Tennis Club at the University of Southern Mississippi has been one of the most rewarding parts of my college experience. It gave me the opportunity to grow as a leader, build lifelong friendships, and stay active while balancing academics. I'm especially grateful for the university's continued support of student organizations through funding, dedicated advisors like Mr. Brett Heckman, and guidance that empowers students to turn ideas into reality. I was also proud to secure additional funding for our club through an external partner, helping us create even more opportunities for our members. Looking back, this experience has taught me that leadership is about serving others, building a community, and creating an environment where everyone can grow. Whether on or off the court, USM has provided an incredible place to develop not only as an athlete, but also as a person, and I'm thankful for every lesson and every memory along the way. SMTTT!
