Please join us in welcoming Mr. Mitchell Smith to the OGE family as our Assistant Principal! We are thrilled to have him on board and can’t wait for an amazing year ahead!

OGE Leadership Announcement!

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Mitchell Smith will serve as the Assistant Principal of Oak Grove Elementary for the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year!

Mr. Smith brings 18 years of experience to this role—all proudly served within Lamar County Schools. His dedication to our district is highlighted by his unique journey, having served in a wide array of positions, including elementary teacher, music teacher, and 6 years as transportation director.

With a love for elementary education, Mr. Smith is looking forward to returning to the school setting to support students and staff. He recently shared, "I am so thankful for my time serving in transportation, but I am excited to be back on a school campus. I am looking forward to interacting with students and doing my best to promote a positive school culture under the leadership of an excellent principal."

When he isn't busy supporting our students and staff, Mr. Smith enjoys fishing and playing music! Join us in officially welcoming Mr. Mitchell Smith to OGE!

This week features a member of the LCS family who is stepping into an exciting new chapter, Mrs. Linda Murray.

Linda is a proud 1990 Oak Grove High School graduate who has dedicated an incredible 20 years of service to LCS! She currently serves as the Assistant Principal at Oak Grove Elementary, and we look forward to her taking the helm as the incoming Head Principal for the 26-27 school year!✨

Reflecting on her journey from an OGH student to her upcoming role as Principal, Mrs. Murray shares:

"I’m proud to work for the same district I graduated from. Returning as an employee felt like coming full circle—giving back to the community and schools that helped shape who I am today. It’s meaningful to support the next generation of students in the place that first inspired my own growth and learning."

Thank you, Mrs. Murray, for your two decades of dedication to LCS! We cannot wait to see all the amazing things you will accomplish at OGE!

Fifth Grade Day was a huge success! These 5th graders are the first students to remain on this campus from Kindergarten through 5th Grade! They first walked onto this campus as Kindergarteners during the midst of the COVID pandemic, and they are leaving as kind, remarkable 5th graders.

A huge thank you to our PTO, parent volunteers, Patio 44 and Little Caesars for donating food, Kathryn Sumido for 3D printed prizes and art supplies, Economy Supplies for ceiling tiles, Gaming Fun On Wheels, A’magine Balloon Art and more, and last but certainly not least, our 5th grade teachers for making this day so special.

We hope these students head to OGMS and continue to achieve great success! Congratulations to the Class of 2033!! 🎓🖤💛

Students with no more than 4 absences were treated to a limo ride around town! We are proud of these students (and their parents) for making school attendance a priority!
