With sixteen years of private music teaching experience, Brakenhoff Piano Studio provides quality pr Kirs grew up in Columbus, Nebraska.

Kris Allphin Brakenhoff and her family are newly relocated to Hastings Nebraska. She played piano in both contemporary Praise and Worship bands and was church accompanist while attending colleges in Oklahoma and Nebraska. She has degrees in Art and Design and Foreign Mission Ministry. After college she was employed as an illustrator and artist. She continued 15 years of active involvement in musi

c ministry. When she and her husband started a family, she opened a private music studio in Columbus offering piano and Kindermusik classes. The private studio grew to 60 students a week. Many of her students participate in piano and music competitions taking home highest honors. Kristine is also an award winning batik artist exhibiting in galleries and teaching batik workshops. Most recently, one of her batik pieces will be featured in a soon to be released Hollywood movie.. Today, Kris divides her time and studio space between art and music.

Pano Festival today. Students have worked very hard to prepare for this annual event. I'm very proud of all of them. A huge thank you to the Chris Hochstetler and all the volunteers and staff at the Stuhr Museum .

It is almost Christmas! One of my favorites aspects this time of year is the music. I am very privileged to work with hardworking and talented music students and the end of the year is always filled with beautiful sound.

How and where I host my student piano recitals these last few years has had to be adjusted. Recitals have been small and private but the music, experience and TALENT is the same. With permission, I'm sharing some of the performance and there are more to come today. It's guaranteed to put you in the Holiday spirit..stay tuned.

Piano Families.

This is the set up for online piano lessons. I'll send you each an email this weekend with an opportunity to schedule a lesson. I'm going to block an hour time slot for each lesson which will give us time to troubleshoot and assure we get 30 minutes of instruction.

Since the schools are using zoom you are probably familiar with the platform. If not, or if you do not have internet, we can use messenger or any video chat app

I'll be teaching on the keyboard as the sound is easier to control.

The more I've consulted with other piano teachers and the more I've thought about how this will work, the more excited and confident that this could be an opportunity and benefit to us musically. We will go through the regular method books but we will also focus on composition and improvising skills. There isn't enough time in lessons to cover these techniques thoroughly and even less time to practice it .. There is now. In fact, we all have more time to self reflect and create. Creating your own music is really why we become musicians.

So even though this is a difficult time, It could be an opportunity to uncover and unleash those hidden gifts and talents. I promise this will be a good experience.

Piano Families:

In the event the schools close, I will move to easy online classes. We will use Zoom, Google Duo, or Skype and we will continue to prepare for competition and festival. What better time to improve skills than when quarantined at home?

The festival has not been cancelled. If the schools are closed on April 4th, the festival will be postponed until the schools are opened. Keep those pieces fresh.

All this depends on school closures. In the meantime, I'm asking students to wash hands before lessons and I'm disinfecting piano keys, door k***s and sitting area between each lesson. I'm also removing all unnecessary books and items from the piano studio and suspending fruit snack incentives.

If your child or a family member is not feeling well, please stay home. We can schedule an online make -up class at your convenience.
