Post Secondary Education Exploration Events

Students interested in pursuing postsecondary education will learn about the self-advocacy and literacy skills needed to be successful on a college campus. Students will also tour college programs based on their prior Transition Assessment.

October 21, 2026: MPCC North Platte Registration for NP MPCC (registration closes 10/14)

March 24, 2027: CCC Hastings Registration will take place in January

Yesterday, area students had a fun-filled day exploring the YMCA and Pastime Lanes! 🎳

Throughout the day, students had opportunities to build independent living skills, practice making their own decisions, strengthen communication and social skills, and enjoy recreational activities while making new friends. They also incorporated literacy activities into their day while learning and exploring new places.

It was a great day of learning, building independence, and creating new friendships!

🎃 The Arc is hosting a Halloween Pizza & Dance Party on Thursday, October 22, 2026, from 6–9 p.m. at the Adams County Fairgrounds, 947 S. Baltimore Avenue in Hastings.

The event is for people of all ages with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Pizza is provided for participants, their support person, or parents. Additional family members are $2 each, and bottled water will be available.

Costumes are encouraged! 👻

RSVP by October 15 if you plan to eat.

Yesterday and today School Psychologists in the ESU 9 area attended the Nebraska School Psychologists Association fall conference in Kearney, NE. They grew their knowledge of dyslexia, legal guidance, MTSS, and evaluation topics to name just a few!

🧠 Experience Dyslexia: A Simulation Webinar

This one-hour virtual experience is designed primarily for parents, caregivers, and educators, but it is also a powerful professional learning opportunity. The simulation walks participants through what dyslexia can feel like in real time, offering a deeper perspective into the daily cognitive load our students carry and reinforcing why evidence-based, structured literacy intervention and accommodations for success matter so much.

Even for experienced teachers, many find the simulation to be a meaningful refresher and a great tool for strengthening empathy, language, and advocacy when working with families.
