A contentious School Board meeting on Wednesday, March 26 concluded with a narrow 3-2 vote to replace Policy 100 (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) with the district's strategic plan. This issue has been a source of considerable division since discussions began in February, with Chair Tate noting roughly 200 community members from each side petitioning the school board. Also of note, a letter was read before the meeting that was signed by only 1/3 of the teacher's union.
If we do nothing to support our school board, we're letting a very vocal and hostile minority hijack the board's discussion. You can easily help our children with letters to the editor, signing up for public comment, sharing social media posts, or emailing the board.
Most immediately, there are Community Collaborations scheduled in April where we're invited to provide input on the Strategic Plan, Budget, and Core Values; Tuesday at 6pm, 4/8, 4/15, 4/22. If we do not show up to support our board, they'll only hear feedback from a very hostile and misguided minority.
Missed the meeting? You can watch the recording online, where each board member explained their vote: Policy 100 Discussion (starts at 2:04:25).
