Currently Club Express (our website platform) is having intermittent issues and our ability to send e-sheet is not there right now.

The Sunfish Fleet is holding its Summer Solstice Sunfish Regatta on Saturday, June 20. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Six races will be held, weather permitting, with one throw-out. I encourage all Sunfish sailors to participate. This regatta is open to other clubs and provides a great opportunity for meeting new people and honing your racing skills. Mark the date on your calendar. Don't miss out because you don't have your own boat. Club boats are available for LSC members who have qualified on a Sunfish.

Laser sailors are invited to join in on the fun and experience racing a craft that is bereft of a myriad of lines.

The Lightning fleet has been very supportive in past years, providing excellent support for race committee, and their continued assistance would be welcome.

Under somewhat ominous skies but absolutely glittery blue water, three Lightnings sailed under breezy then moderating conditions for the first official fleet racing of the season. The Lightning regatta that the club hosts took the first-weekend slot last week. Any boat that has a YELLOW RIBBON on it is slated for removal. If this includes your boat, please contact me asap.

I plan to start removing boats from the racks starting Jun 20, 2026 that are not properly labeled on boat and rack and/or are not up-to-date with a 2026 renewal fee.

Lansing Sailing Club Annual Lightning Regatta Recap

The Lansing Sailing Club Annual Lightning Regatta brought 11 teams to Lake Lansing for a full day of competitive racing, good breeze, and the kind of post-race storytelling that makes a regatta memorable.

Racing began around 11:00 a.m. under sunny skies and warm summer conditions. The breeze came from the northeast, starting light at around 5 knots before gradually building through the day into a steady 7–10 knots. That made for a fair and enjoyable day of racing, with enough wind to keep the fleet moving through shifts and weeds.

The race committee completed three races in the morning before sending the fleet in for a lunch break. After lunch, sailors returned to the water for three more races, giving the fleet six races in total. With one throwout allowed, each team’s best five finishes determined the final standings.

Competition was close throughout the fleet. Scott Watkins (Lansing Sailing Club), put together the most consistent series of the day with finishes of 3, 1, 2, 1, 2, and a throwout of 5. His final score of 9 points earned first place overall. Tom Klaban (Pontiac Yacht Club) also had a strong day, including a race win and several top-three finishes, finishing second with 10 points after throwout. George Siegle (LSC), rounded out the top three with 16 points, highlighted by consistent finishes near the front of the fleet.

Michael Kovalchick (LSC) took fourth with 18 points, including a win in Race 6. John Morley (PYC) finished fifth with 24 points, aided by a Race 5 win. The rest of the fleet battled through shifting positions and building breeze, with several teams showing strong individual race results across the day.

After racing concluded, sailors gathered back on shore for awards, beverages, door prizes, and plenty of stories from the day on the water. The combination of strong participation, six completed races, good summer weather, and close competition made for a successful and enjoyable Lightning regatta at Lansing Sailing Club.

Congratulations to all competitors, and thank you to everyone who helped organize, run, and support the event.

Lansing Sailing Club hosted the Capitol City Lightning Regatta on Sunday June 7th at Lake Lansing. Eleven boats enjoyed Chamber of Commerce conditions in the afternoon after light winds in the morning. LSC sailor Scott Watkins took top honors with a first place finish, Tom Klaban and crew from Pontiac YC on Cass Lake took second and LSC sailor George Siegle and crew took 3rd place.
