As we head back to school, a reminder about dyslexia. 💛

Dyslexia has nothing to do with intelligence.

It is not caused by a lack of effort or motivation.

It is not simply seeing letters or words backwards.

And it is not something a child will just “grow out of.”

Dyslexia is a neurobiological learning disability that primarily affects word reading and spelling.

A student with dyslexia can be bright, curious, creative, and full of potential while still finding reading and spelling incredibly difficult.

So when a student struggles to read, please don’t assume they aren’t trying.

They need understanding.
They need the right support.
And most importantly, they need effective reading instruction.

She sat in the "slow reader" group, convinced she'd never be good enough. Nobody knew she was about to change millions of childhoods forever.

Shout out to Beverly Cleary and all the people who have tried to help our schools and society better understand learning differences.
