How Jung’s philosophy relates to acting despite fear:
Embracing the unknown: In his work Symbols of Transformation, Jung wrote: "If there is a fear of falling, the only safety consists in deliberately jumping". This is a powerful metaphor for choosing to face your fears head-on rather than remaining paralyzed by them.
Overcoming stagnation: Jung believed that if you don't take risks, "the meaning of life is somehow violated, and the whole future is condemned to hopeless staleness". Acting with courage is therefore essential to living a meaningful life.
Avoiding resistance: Jung famously taught that "what you resist, not only persists but will grow in size". By resisting the things we fear, we only make them stronger. The way to diminish their power is to face them.
The path to wholeness: For Jung, the ultimate goal of psychological development is individuation, or becoming your true, whole self. This process requires confronting and integrating all aspects of your psyche, including the parts that scare you. When you "become who you're afraid to be," you find your true potential.
