Today I walked through the door for the last time as a parent telling myself that I need to keep it together for the sake of the children because this was going to be a very difficult and emotional day for them. Well I almost held it together. It wasn’t until all the kids stood around the piano and sang along while Mrs. Camp played. Watching their faces and listening to them trying to get through the songs as one by one the tears started rolling down their faces broke my heart. I completely lost it.
The one person who is supposed to be the leader of our parish was nowhere to be found. Instead he is 4,600 miles away in Poland. I keep asking myself why someone who says he loves these kids would schedule to be gone for an entire month. He missed 8th grade graduation, the school picnic, kindergarten graduation and today the last day our school was opened. I have always been taught that actions speak louder than words.
I finally collected myself for the remainder of the morning and just hung out with them. I love these kids as if they were my own. I am so proud of each and every one of them.
When we moved here 10 years ago we knew that our 3 children would go to St Joes. It was not because it was a private school but a school that would continue teaching them what we have always and will continue to teach them. That it is very important to have GOD in their lives. We wanted them to be able to speak about their faith, pray at any moment in the day without “offending” another child, parent or administrator. Those of us who chose to send our children to St Joes should not have to continue to defend the reasons why we made the decision nor will they understand the sacrifices we made as families to give them a faith based education.
Waiting to the 11th hour to announce a decision never giving the school families, parishioners and community that truly wanted to keep the school open the chance to try anything to save our school. I don’t think I will be able to forgive the bad choices and decision they made. Saying they didn’t know how bad it really was until right before the decision was made is very hard for me to believe. I was also taught in Sunday school that money is the root of all evil. The whole situation with our school proves that 100%
Our children are strong and they will get through this as they have always done. They may have taken our school away. But they will never take away the love, happiness, great memories and friendships that have been made.
Good luck to all the children and parents of St Joseph School. May God bless each of you!
