"If there is one thing that you need to know about me it is that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. Nothing else can ever compare to that.
My one goal in life is to emulate Christ and to show his love in everything that I do. Jesus should not just be a part of my life he should be my WHOLE life. When people ask “who is marisa varner?” I want it to be so clearly known and seen by everyone around that I am a servant of the Lord. Not worthy in any way, shape, or form, but called and equipped only by him to be his disciple.
This past week I had the opportunity to return to the Dominican Republic, a place that has truly changed my life and touched my heart in so many ways. And I thank the Lord that I was able to serve him in this way. There are so many things I can say about this trip, but there is one thing that has really stood out to me. The Lord is faithful always.
My week started on a mountain top (like literally on top of the mountain) where I was able to share the gospel with 5 beautiful girls and lead them to a relationship with Christ. But just like my week started on a mountain top it also ended on a mountain top as well. I was able to spend time with a woman who has experienced so much loss and heartbreak. But still she is seeking the Lord. I was able to pray with her and see the Holy spirt move in so many ways.
My one take away is that the Lord is faithful always. From mountain top to mountain top and every single valley and bump and curve in between he is there, and he is working.
Everything that I am and everything that I do is a product of his faithfulness and I can’t help but to praise him for that. Gloria a Dios."

DR Update - Day 7
On Friday, we started the day off spending the morning in God’s presence. We met in the upper room for a time of individual prayer, reflection, and Bible reading, then heard an amazing message from Mr. Caleb Schroll.
This week, we’ve been discussing the importance of community, and we practiced that as we went to the beach. We spent about four hours total swimming, eating lunch, getting smoothies, and just fellowshipping as we are called to do as family in Christ. We witnessed God’s providence and peace as two students made the choice to be baptized as well as one of our chaperones. After the baptisms, we packed up and came back to our compound, where we ate dinner and hung out until it was time for our upper room meeting. Another common theme from the week was the power of prayer. During upper room, we worshipped God and heard testimonies of students that we’ve never had the opportunity to hear before. God really opened our eyes and hearts, and we’ve all grown much closer because of upper room that night. After worship and testimonies, we took time to split up into groups and pray for one another. Even though we acknowledge the fact that many people are facing hard, difficult things, we felt the joy of the Lord as we took time to lift each other up to Him in prayer. We can’t wait to see what God does with us as we return home.

DR Update - Day 4
Yesterday we all got to visit village 106, a village that hasn’t been visited by us in a few years. This was the first time in a while, and it was exciting getting to see new people and lots and lots of new kids. I played with the kids a majority of the time we were there, and it was a blessing to see how elated they were to play the simplest games with us. My shoulders are sore from the many kids that begged me to carry them around.
After the village we came back and took a much needed rest, and later went to what we call Cowboy Church. Last year I got to experience this wonderful church and these wonderful members, and I’d say it was one of the most vivid memories of last year. This year, however, may have topped last year because of all the people I got to see share their testimonies, including myself. This church is one of the smallest buildings I’ve been in, but we made it work by marching around the building, clapping and singing praises to our Lord and Savior. The bonds I made or strengthened just in that one night were ones that I’m proud to be apart of. I thank God that we all could feel His presence and fellowship even through the language barrier. Gloria Dios!

DR Update - Day 3
Today we began with the Lord by meeting together in the Upper Room. We had the privilege of seeing the beautiful Dominican Sunrise. The time in the morning is so special because we are together, but we are intimately sitting in His presence alone. We take time to read the Bible and reflect and truly make God the first thoughts of the day. We had the opportunity to serve Village 50 by painting homes, door to door evangelism and spending time with the kids. Everyone enjoyed the experience of working for God by helping his children. It was hard for us to see how people live, when we know we have so much at home we take for granted. I genuinely feel so blessed to be here, and have the privilege to grow my faith with my classmates. On the way back and to Village 50 I got to spend time with the kids in my class in a different way. Serving together is so much different. Watching everyone genuinely want this intimacy with God is amazing. Later, we went to a church outside and I saw my friends allow themselves to be vulnerable before the Lord, the church, and their peers. It broke my heart to see how much the people that look happy were hurting or have been hurt. I haven’t hit “that” moment yet with God, but I am getting there. As each day passes, I feel myself craving for His presence. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Day 1 Update:
Yesterday, it was lots of traveling from 2:30 AM when we left the school, to 7:30 PM when we arrived at our compound. That’s 17 hours!
The first bus ride was to Cleveland, which was only an hour. Then we got to the airport and had to get our tickets which took a little while but then we were ready to board the plane. The first plane trip was only an hour, then we landed in Baltimore Maryland for our second flight. Then we had a layover for the second flight which was 5 hours. There was napping, snacking, card gaming and waking in those 5 hours. Once we landed in Punta Cana we waited for our luggage then headed on the MGM bus to go to the compound, which was a 2 hour drive. At the compound, we ate tacos and after, we got all of our luggage and settled in. We ended the night with worship and a short orientation to start off the week.
Thank you for praying for us,
Tori

This week was Sophomore class chapel, and we welcomed Josh Vick from the Canton Baptist Temple as our speaker.
As we reflect on Josh’s message this weekend, are you ordering your life in such a way that evangelism - sharing the Gospel - is at the forefront of what you do?
“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”” Matthew 28:18-20
If we’re not in the habit of telling people about Jesus, we WILL fail at making disciples.

PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH
Pastors, we appreciate you partnering with Lake Center to help provide students with a biblically-centered education. We are thankful for your ministry and pray for you as you fulfill the call the Lord has put on your life.
At LCCS, we also are grateful for our Campus Pastor, Mr. Jeff Knori, as he steadfastly continues to serve our school. Thank you, Mr. Knori, for pouring your heart and soul into our students, nurturing their spiritual well-being and modeling a life of character and service to Christ.
