🚀 Calling All Businesses & Community Organizations! 🚀

Lake Elementary is excited to host our 5th Annual Fall Family STEAM Night on Thursday, November 5th, and we're looking for local businesses, organizations, and community partners to help make this event even bigger and better!

This is one of the largest family events in Lake Local Schools, bringing together hundreds of students, families, and community members for an evening of hands-on science, technology, engineering, arts, and math experiences.

We're seeking businesses and organizations willing to host an interactive or engaging station that showcases what you do while inspiring the next generation of learners. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with families, promote your organization, and make a positive impact in our community.

🚀 This week in STEAM, our students are reaching for the stars! 🌟

Students are learning all about space flight and engineering their very own paper rockets — and let’s just say… some of these rockets are blasting all the way to the roof of the school! 🚀📚

Yesterday, our 3rd graders experienced a truly one-of-a-kind STEAM lesson! 🚀

Hunter, one of our talented high school students, stopped by to deliver something special—custom-designed STEAM kits created and engineered by students in Mr. Westfall’s STEAM class. Talk about students inspiring students!

Our 3rd graders had an absolute blast following the student-made instructions, building their own unique creations, and putting their designs to the test. The room was filled with creativity, problem-solving, and excitement from start to finish!

This is what STEAM is all about—collaboration, innovation, and learning from one another. We’re so proud of all the students involved in making this experience unforgettable! 👏

🌈 Hands-On Science with Our Small Group! 🌈

Today, our young scientists explored absorption using just paper towels, markers, and water droppers—and the results were amazing!

Students drew lines of different colors and then carefully added drops of water. As the water spread, it carried the marker ink with it, creating beautiful rainbow effects across the paper towel.

This happens because paper towels are made of tiny fibers with small spaces between them. When water is added, it moves through those spaces (a process called capillary action), absorbing into the towel and pulling the color along with it. 💧

🎬✨ Lights, Camera, Animation! ✨🎬
Students in grades 2–4 are diving into the world of stop motion animation during this STEAM rotation, and they are absolutely crushing it!
Stop motion animation is a filmmaking technique where objects are moved a tiny bit at a time and photographed after each movement. When all of those photos are played back quickly in sequence, it creates the illusion of motion. The science behind it is something called “persistence of vision,” where our eyes and brain blend individual images together to see smooth movement—just like in movies and cartoons!
Our students are using their creativity, patience, and problem-solving skills to design scenes, move characters frame by frame, and bring their stories to life. It takes dozens of pictures just to make a few seconds of animation, and the attention to detail these kids are showing is incredibly impressive.
We have some future filmmakers and engineers in the making! 🎥🍿
