Meet Abbie.
She's a mentor at One River Manhasset who earned her BFA in Painting and Printmaking from the New Hampshire Institute of Art.
She trained classically in Boston, then completed the Core Program at Grand Central Atelier in New York.
Now her own practice involves landscapes, florals, and painting from life.
When asked what drew Abbie to One River, she said:
"I've always been drawn to community education because it reclaims a sense of wonder that we often lose as we grow up...
Community spaces like One River break down those hurdles, reigniting curiosity in adults, many of whom find their way back to the studio after watching their own children take lessons."
Outside of class, Abbie paints from life, chasing landscapes and florals wherever she can find them.
She's consulted farmers who grow native pollinator plants and floral designers who know the lifespan of a single stem, just to get the details right.
Her students hear about all of it, and they're always curious to see what she's working on next.
Her students also know what it's like to walk in nervous.
"The once-nervous student is now the one offering encouragement," she says. It's the part of teaching she loves most.
