Educators and parents....be careful with your use of expecting perfection!

Perfection may be needed in some cases, but if overdone/expected always... it diminishes creativity.

Creativity leads to creation, new developments, new ways to solve problems, etc. ... like what we need right now and into the future.

Encourage it!

Musing on the Daily Stoic

We are not perfect. Try writing reminders about not losing your temper or not wasting your time. Remind yourself that some people you deal with will be meddling, ungrateful and dishonest. Do the right things, rather than try to be remembered. Remind yourself of the importance of discipline. All these, not because you fall short of these principles and virtues, but because you are human.

It’s not about being a saint, or trying to become one. The standard is what you do when you’ve slipped, when no one is looking. Do you try to focus on what’s in your control more often than not? Do you put in the work to be present more often than not? To be kind? Ethical? Virtuous?

If you can consistently, regularly, even on average, manage to put some of these practices to work in your life, then you are crushing it. More often than not, *if you can do the kind, ethical, virtuous thing *‘more often than not’…then you are in very elite company.

Strive to get better each day.

From the moment we’re first awake: Get up or snooze the alarm? Go for a run or back to bed? Make ourselves lunch or order out? Go to the gym or to a happy hour? Get a good night’s sleep or watch another episode?

It’s these choices that add up to make you, you. You are the sum of one small choice stacked upon one small choice stacked upon one small choice. If your life were a painting, these choices would be the brushstrokes that compose it. In other words, your life is mostly defined by your choices, by your discipline. Not by others or outside forces.

Educators..... This is what it is all about! (Read to end please)

From: Kris Walters
Coach | Strategist | Ops Leader |
"I use strategic & inspiring leadership to develop talent and drive sustainable growth."

"Wondering about things sometimes gets me in trouble.

It usually leads me down paths without complete answers, ripe with tons of questions, risks and the unknown.
But I LOVE IT!

No, I’m not a thrill ju**ie, but there is something deeply rewarding when life responds to healthy wonder. And there is something deeply creative when that happens with a team others.

That’s what I am looking for - possibility seekers, ‘what if’ questioners, opportunities to be curious and pursue awe-inspiring goals with deep intentionality.

It’s kinda like Indy, eyes closed on the edge of a deep chasm, taking that step and believing that when his foot lands, there will be something solid there to withstand the weight.

Wonder is both a process and an experience - a verb and a noun. The process initiates discovery. The discovery leads to the experience.

When organizations engage in this intentionality, I’ve found solutions surface, problems dissolve and teams chase goals with enthusiasm. That stuff is what I get addicted to.

(by the way, if you need help with wonder or a change in your organization, let me know)"

Momentarily doubting my wonder in taking this part-time gig.

𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬
1) What do you wonder about?
2) Is wonder encouraged in your business/organization/ecosystem?

𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐬
1) 15 years with my youngest - love that kid!
2) Julia - a neighbor who lives outside my residence downtown. Always a smile, always positive, and always remembers my name.
3) Joseph Gulino, who was one of the first wonder engineers in my life.

Heads up!

Be aware of any suspicious text messages asking for your personal information as they may be phishing attempts designed to fool you into providing sensitive information. Furthermore, be ready to contact your phone carrier if your phone suddenly switches to "emergency call service only" or something similar. This is what happens when your phone number has been transferred to another device.

Musing on the Daily Stoic

If you wish to find wisdom, you must read. You must study history. You must avail yourself of the knowledge and the experiences of the dead.

Books are a way to speak to the dead. Want to learn about commanding an army? Discuss this with Napoleon via his memoirs. Trying to navigate a terrible pandemic? You can talk to the survivors...and the victims of the plagues of history.

We are, as they say, functionally illiterate, by choosing not to read.

"That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history,” Aldous Huxley once said, “is the most important of the lessons that history has to teach us."

RECOGNIZE HOW FORTUNATE WE ARE, and let's get together rather than continue to separate.
Do not fall into the traps set by tech companies, social media, and charlatans who are taking financial advantage of our being apart because of covid, fear, etc. Engage with others of all mindsets and beliefs to stay balanced.

For most people, it is a large figure However, if you condensed 7.8 billion into 100 persons, and then into various percentage statistics the resulting analysis is relatively much easier to comprehend.

Out of 100 :
11 are in Europe
5 are in North America
9 are in South America
15 are in Africa
60 are in Asia
49 live in the countryside
51 live in cities
75 have mobile phones
25 do not.
30 have internet access
70 do not have the availability to go online
7 received universityeducation
93 did not attend college.
83 can read
17 are illiterate.
33 are Christians
22 are Muslims
14 are Hindus
7 are Buddhists
12 are other religions
12 have no religious beliefs.
26 live less than 14 years
66 died between 15 - 64 years of age
8 are over 65 years old.

If you have your own home,
Eat full meals & drink clean water,
Have a mobile phone,
Can surf the internet, and
have gone to college,
You are in the miniscule privileged lot.
(in the less than 7% category)

Amongst 100 persons in the world, only 8 live or exceed the age of 65.

If you are over 65 years old, be content & grateful. Cherish life, grasp the moment.

If you did not leave this world before the age of 64 like the 92 persons who have gone before you, you are already the blessed amongst mankind.

Take good care of your own health. Cherish every remaining moment.
