Mary Waters
Owner / Teacher

Mary spent a large part of her childhood enjoying nature; she grew up playing in the 16 acres of woods surrounding her log cabin home. She continues to share that love of the outdoors with her husband and three children where she resides in Hartly, Delaware on their 29-acre wooded property, which is also home to
Ms. Mary holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Wilmington University and is a certified Early Childhood Administrator through Delaware Department of Education. With over 15 years of experience serving birth through school-age children as a family childcare provider, she has most recently shifted her focus to the role of preschool teacher. While playing outside, our friends spotted something VERY exciting—a real box turtle! 😍

They were absolutely thrilled to find him and couldn't wait to come tell me about their discovery. We took some time to observe him and admire this amazing little creature before letting him continue on his way.

These are the moments I love most about our outdoor classroom—the unexpected discoveries, the excitement, and the opportunity to learn from nature right when it happens. ❤️🌿

Our little butterflies had fun putting on their wings, flapping, flying, and running around!

Sometimes the best learning happens when we simply move, imagine, and have fun together. 🌿✨

🌿 A tiny nature discovery...

We found a little millipede curled up in our outdoor classroom. After a while, it finally uncurled and crawled across our hands—what a tickly feeling!

A few brave friends let it crawl on their hands, and then we used a magnifying glass to take a closer look at all those tiny little legs! 🔍💚

Curiosity is everywhere when you take time to look!🌿

🍂🌰 A perfect fall activity!

With the first day of fall arriving this week, we’ve been enjoying one of nature’s little treasures—acorns! The children collected and sorted them by size, color, and whether they had caps or not.

A simple nature activity filled with observation, sorting, comparing, and early math skills! 🍁🌿

A little rain didn’t stop us from heading into the woods today! We believe some of the best learning happens when children are given the opportunity to experience nature in all kinds of weather.

Rainy days bring their own kind of magic—listening to the rain, feeling the cool drops, noticing the changes in the woods, and simply enjoying the freedom to explore. 💚

We don’t just learn about nature… we experience it! 🌿☔️

Sometimes the biggest excitement comes from the simplest moments. 🐢
Today’s highlight was spotting this little painted turtle and stopping to admire it for a while. Childhood wonder at its finest. 💚
