A HUGE thank you to all of our teachers, staff, and bus drivers in Hartland Schools today! 💙💛

I was especially impressed with the level of communication and the updates we received throughout the situation. Hopefully that continues to improve! Although it could have been a serious situation, knowing that our kids were being kept calm, informed, and safe meant so much as a parent.

My child actually felt so safe during the shelter-in-place that his first words when he got home were, “That was fun!” 🤦🏽‍♀️😂

It’s such a reassuring feeling as a parent to know we can trust the people looking after our kids when we can’t be there ourselves.

Well done, everyone! Thank you for taking such great care of our kiddos today. 💙💛

𝐕𝐈𝐂𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘 𝐑𝐄𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓: 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐝

I supported bringing School Resource Officers (SROs) and School Safety Officers (SSOs) into Hartland Consolidated Schools as a parent and then ran for School Board in 2024 with a focus on school safety. There was a concern that when the initial contracts expired, priorities might change and funding might shift, as happens often.

In May, the board worked together to ensure SROs and SSOs would remain in Hartland buildings for another 3 years, contracting with Livingston County Sheriff and a private contractor to keep schools safe.

SROs and SSOs are not a press release. They are trained professionals n the building: a visible presence in hallways and at events, a faster response if something goes wrong, and another set of eyes on the ordinary problems that never make the news including fights, threats, trespassers, and sometimes just a student that needs help.

Renewal means continuity. Those who already know our campuses, our staff, and our students stay in place. Parents should not have to guess whether next semester still has coverage.

School and student safety remains my core focus as I seek re-election.

‼️Re-elect Dawn M. Smith to the Cromaine Board of Trustees‼️ Dawn’s intelligence, commitment to the well-being of others, and teamwork make her an integral part of the board. Dawn is a registered nurse of over 25 years. She served for 16 years as the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). She evaluated clinical research to establish evidence-based standards of care, selected appropriate treatment protocols, and improved outcomes for cardiac patients. She has written numerous clinical policies and procedures, while leading a variety of multidisciplinary clinical committees. Dawn also worked with The Joint Commission, conducting reviews of Destination Therapy Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) programs at hospitals across the country. She evaluated hospital compliance with standards required for certification. Dawn helped lead her Detroit CVICU through the pandemic and compassionately cared for critically ill patients at their bedside throughout 2020 and 2021.

With a true heart for service, Dawn serves as Chairperson of the Livingston County Health Advisory Committee. This committee acts as a fact-finding and advisory body to both the Livingston County Board of Commissioners and the Livingston County Board of Health.

Dawn is passionate about supporting the Cromaine District Library's mission to maintain a balanced, diverse, and responsive collection that meets the needs of the entire community. You can trust that Dawn helps lead the Cromaine Library with foresight and wisdom! 💥
