A little rain didn’t stop our Laker community from coming together to celebrate Homecoming last week!

The festivities kicked off with our parade and continued with a chili cook-off, brownie bake-off, the Stair ’66 Field ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the induction of new members into the ULS Athletics Hall of Fame.

On the courts and fields, Lakers cheered on girls volleyball on the sand court, girls field hockey, and boys soccer under the lights on Stair ’66 Field.

It was such a fun celebration, and such a joy to see Lakers of all ages come together to celebrate our school and community.

Last week, our 5th and 6th graders took their study of water beyond the classroom!

On Wednesday, 6th graders visited Paradise Springs Nature Area in Eagle, WI to learn about the historical significance of water in Waukesha County, where people once traveled from near and far to experience its famed “healing water.” After researching their topics in advance, students shared their findings with classmates at locations throughout the park.

On Thursday, 5th and 6th graders headed out for the annual river restoration trip. Returning to a property they visited last year during its rewilding process, students saw firsthand how much the landscape had changed. Experts guided students through various water sampling activities and helped them build dams in the river to support the development of a new wetland area. Way to go, Lakers!

The Lower School has been getting into the Homecoming spirit all week with a lineup of fun spirit days!

Yesterday was “Dress Like a Celebrity,” and some of our fourth graders took a little inspiration from a familiar face: their teacher, Mr. McCartney. Even his fellow co-teacher, Mr. Chi, joined in on the fun! We’re still not entirely sure which one is the original.

Meanwhile, Lower School teachers channeled their inner Lower School Head, Mr. Zall, by donning blazers and embracing his signature style. Looking sharp, Lakers!

Over the last couple of weeks, our JK3 Forest students have become very interested in some of our wiggly friends: worms! 🪱

The children have been digging worms up to take a closer look, learning how to be gentle with them, and carefully returning them to the earth after investigating. On a particularly rainy day, they found plenty of worms out on the sidewalks and brought along measuring tapes to see just how long they were.
