Recent Community Conversations yielded the theme of Administration positions at Swallow School along with budgetary planning. Therefore, the School Board has recognized the need for additional feedback and dialogue with the community and staff. A Town Hall meeting has been scheduled for this Thursday, May 26th.

The Swallow School Board of Education has approved the resignation submitted by Principal Adam Scanlan at the May 19, 2022 board meeting. On behalf of the Swallow community, we would like to thank Principal Scanlan for his service during an unprecedented time. We wish Principal Scanlan well in his new role.

We look forward to seeing you and having an open dialogue on this topic.

I want to thank everyone who has supported me throughout the election process. I am overwhelmed with appreciation for entrusting me with your vote. I look forward to serving the students, community members, staff, and parents.

The campaign trail was as insightful and fulfilling, as it was exhausting. Knocking on over 300 doors to engage with the community and listen to what so many who may or may not have voted for me in the end; had to say. This has been an incredibly vital few months for me to listen and to learn from everyone in our community. My plan is to take what I’ve learned from each of you and use it to help me serve and break down the divisive narrative that has been created. My commitment is to continue to listen, and although we may not all agree on everything; I truly believe together we can work as a community to be better, less divisive, less combative, and ultimately more respectful and inclusive of each other’s thoughts and beliefs. I believe we can only accomplish this together if it is what we want.

This race has never been about winning or losing for me. This board seat represents a voice for everyone; whether you voted for me or not, to be heard and respected throughout my tenure. That is why I would like to thank all 3 of my opponents for the conversations we have shared, for the healthy debates we have had, and will no doubt continue to have, and for continuing to push me to think differently about the people we serve.

Congratulations to Haley Sweeney for being elected to the other Swallow School board seat, to James Emanuele, and to Laura McGuire and thank you for being worthy opponents, who were so willing to commit your time to this very important role in our community.

And now the work begins….

This is the last night before the election and I would be remiss if I did not take a moment to thank everyone who has supported me through the past few months. I cannot thank you enough for your time, being an ear for me to vent, and I am blessed for your friendships. You all know who you are.....

It is not easy running for a local school board election, it has taught me a lot in many ways. I can assure you it is not for the faint of heart. I witnessed how supportive people can be, I witnessed how divisive and malicious people could be, and I witnessed many genuine people in our community open to getting to know me before deciding on their vote.

My favorite experience was knocking on doors, hearing many perspectives, and although viewpoints may be different in some cases, we were always able to find common ground. One learning lesson I will take away from this experience is without healthy dialogue, we will stall progress for our children. We must be role models for our kids, we must teach them how to handle adversity, and to always be the better person.

No matter win or lose, I will walk away thankful.

Two positions are open for school board members to be elected on April 5, 2022, which are currently filled by Darin Clark (Clerk) and Greg Zimmerman (Member), both of whom have filed formal notification of noncandidacy and are not seeking re-election. The winners of these seats will serve three-year terms from April 2022 through April 2025.

I am writing to express my endorsement of my Mom, Kim Khoury for Swallow School Board. I may be a little biased but I could not imagine a person more fit to advocate on behalf of the children, parents, and community members of Swallow than my mom.

If you know my mom personally, I am sure you know that she is a woman of many titles. She is a proud mom of 3, a loving wife, a loyal friend and a woman in corporate America breaking glass ceilings.

She is compassionate and kind, while simultaneously being courageous and strong. That’s what makes her the perfect candidate. It takes compassion and kindness to truly care and
understand the concerns and needs of a community. And it takes courage and strength to fight for what is right and against what is unjust (trust me, she doesn’t go down easily)!

Growing up, and even now in my adult life, she is always there to listen, to give advice and most importantly to stand in my corner supporting me. I know that is exactly what she will do for this school district as well.

She will listen, she will act, and she will always stand with the families of this community.

My mom is not running because she needs to add something else to her resume; she is running because the children, parents, and community members of swallow need someone who is willing to listen to their concerns with an open mind and fight for them
when needed.

That is why you should vote Kim Khoury for Swallow School Board.
She is brave, she is bold, and she is full of fire. Proud of you mom!
