Hurricane Update – Geneva County Schools

Good afternoon, Geneva County Schools families!

We hope that all of our students, employees, and families are safe following the hurricane. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in our community as we begin the recovery process.

We are currently assessing all of our schools and facilities for storm damage. At this time, all of our schools are without power, and we have sustained some damage. Thankfully, none of the damage appears to be severe, and we are extremely grateful that our facilities were spared from major structural damage.

🚨 WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🚨

As we work to protect our food supplies and prepare our schools for reopening, we have an immediate need for the following:

* A 12,000-watt (12 kW) generator to operate a refrigeration unit.

* Large generators to power our lunchroom freezers.

* Refrigerated re**er trucks or trailers that can be used to move and temporarily store frozen food until power is restored.

If you know of a business, company, or individual who may be able to assist us with these rental needs, please contact:

Ralph Riley

Superintendent Becky Birdsong
πŸ“§ [email protected]

We are incredibly thankful that our schools were spared significant damage, and most importantly, we pray that our students, employees, and families are safe.

We understand that families and employees need time to plan for the upcoming week. We will continue monitoring power restoration, road conditions, and the safety of our facilities throughout the weekend. A decision regarding whether Geneva County Schools will reopen on Monday will be made and communicated no later than 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Please continue to monitor our official communication channels for updates.

We know many throughout Geneva County are facing challenges of their own, and we are grateful for the kindness, generosity, and willingness of our community to help one another during difficult times.

Please continue to keep our entire community in your prayers as we work together to recover.

🧬 πŸ”¬7th grade science is all about microscopes this week! Students first learned how to use a microscope, then viewed prepared slides, and today ended with the best part: pond water lab! They made their own slides with water samples that they brought in and found the coolest microorganisms. 🦠 πŸ”¬

🎨✨ Creativity was shining during Flex Friday! ✨🎨

Our Craft Club students created beautiful renditions of stained glass art, filling their designs with color, creativity, and their own unique style! πŸ–ŒοΈπŸŒˆ

Flex Friday gives our Bulldogs opportunities to explore new interests, discover talents, and connect with one another beyond the classroom. πŸ’œπŸ’›πŸΎ

πŸ’§πŸŒŽ AN INCREDIBLE WATER JOURNEY! πŸŒŽπŸ’§

Our 6th graders took learning to a whole new level as they went on an Incredible Water Journey!

Students simulated what it would be like to travel as a water molecule through the Water Cycleβ€”experiencing firsthand how water moves through different stages and locations in our environment. πŸ’¦β˜οΈπŸŒ§οΈ

We love seeing our Bulldogs learning by doing, exploring, and making science come to life! πŸΎπŸ’œπŸ’›
