Part of our graduation tradition involves starting the goodbye with a loving roast of the graduates (“The Emergency Medicine Awards”) — the second to last chance to get together and reminisce about the great times we’ve had together over the past three years. Many thanks to our roastmaster, Frank Marino and Zach Towne & the underclassmen who contributed. We’re gonna miss you guys!

The bittersweet farewells of graduation week are tempered by the excitement of the newest Huskies joining the team! Kicking off an action-packed orientation block was a fun happy hour sponsored by the UConn GME office which allowed our new residents to get together for the first time and to meet their colleagues in other specialties. We are looking forward to a great three years together! UConn Health Graduate Medical Education

Between our scholarly presentations, award recipients, and our dodgeball team (who had the grit to advance four rounds!) SAEM was a huge success. It was also a great opportunity to reconnect with alumni and spend some quality time together as team. We are fortunate at UConn for all residents to be guaranteed one conference and to have access to additional travel funds for scholarly presentations/activities at additional conferences. See you next year in San Francisco!

Photo dump from our amazing team’s 2nd place finish in a field of nearly 100 patients! We are unbelievably proud of the efforts of our team (named, with the obligatory ultrasound pun, The Four Horsemen of the aPOCUSlypse) Drs. Dan Minnes, Tommy Caravetta, Dido Ivanov and Luke Sullivan for their work.

SonoGames is a great event which also provides an opportunity to reconnect with our alumni who have become leaders in point of care ultrasound across the country. Overall, was a great success and we’ll be back next year!

It was a wonderfully busy for our ultrasound division. Our fellow, residents and medical students presented multiple abstracts over the course of three days, ranging from topics such as ultrasound workflow, pelvic free fluid, skin and soft tissue ultrasound and nerve blocks. We are so proud of them!

Our ultrasound division also came home with some awards! Every year, the Academy of Emergency Ultrasound gives out awards for the best ultrasound research conducted in the past year. This year, we were fortunate to have members of our ultrasound division win awards for observational, cross-sectional and case series research regarding echocardiographic ventricular fibrillation, nationwide trends on utilization in academic and community centers, and about troubleshooting transvenous pacemakers with .

We also had our fellowship director Dr. She win an award for the best question written in our national competition!
