Update Friday, June 12, 2026 - I was hoping the forecast for tomorrow would change as we got closer to Friday, but winds are still predicted to be gusty with velocities increasing throughout the morning. They are almost perpendicular to the runways that we typically use as well, meaning that we would have to set up on runway 27. I don't think the situation is conducive for instruction, so I am making the call to cancel. If there is another day that works based on my availability, please start an email thread to make arrangements. Pete B

Safety Tip Tuesday

Last week we featured a poster from the Soaring Safety Foundation: https://www.soaringsafety.org/

One of the comments noted that it was very difficult to read the text and view the graphic at the bottom. Here is the expanded version showing the recommended standard american soaring "In Air" signals.

TEN THOUSAND GLIDER FLIGHTS!!

You read that right. Barry Dunning, father of our club member and instructor, Mark, achieved this remarkable milestone on Sunday, August 10th in Hartford, WI. Despite the unfavorable weather conditions, Barry and Mark (see photo), supported by their family and tow pilot Tom Vogt, were determined to get this done.

Congrats to Barry Dunning, and we're proud to have been a part of this amazing accomplishment.

Barry is part of the Greater Houston Soaring Association
