Breakthrough Magnet School-North Students learn problem solving, responsible choice-making, and the value of keeping their agreements. Parent participation is key to student success.

The mission of Breakthrough Magnet North is for staff, families, and community members of diverse backgrounds to work in partnership to develop students as models of outstanding character. Character development permeates our broad-based instruction, producing students with academic rigor, aesthetic appreciation, technological expertise, and physical expressiveness aimed at contributing to the well being of others. At Breakthrough North, we celebrate our global community, and our students’ resultant lives are marked by vitality, effectiveness, health, and well being. Breakthrough Magnet North is a school where families and teachers work together for academic success. We stress purposeful learning in which students gain knowledge, utilize higher-order thinking, exercise the mind and body, and value the educational experience. It can take many forms, including but not exclusive to: attending school assemblies, serving as a member of our school governance council, volunteering in classrooms, serving as a member of our PTO, attending school events and parent training, or chaperoning a field trip. We also support parents doing school-friendly activities at home such as reading with their child, supervising homework, preparing their child for school, or playing games together. The Breakthrough Magnet North model is organized around a rich character development theme, which permeates all that we do with students, parents, staff, and community members. Breakthrough students are instructed in various problem-solving strategies and communication techniques. These include HA HA SO strategies for handling bullies, the use of I-messages, use of committed complaints (those made with the commitment to finding a solution), making requests and negotiating agreements, and using a 4-step problem solving approach.

Our Unified Arts team decided they wanted to host a UA NIGHT! Over 60 families came to engage in an interactive activity with a artist then learn with the students in STEAM, music, and PE! Thank you Mr. Stewart, Mrs. Gop, and Mr. Sprague for planning a fun and engaging night! Families also got to take home an activity to continue the learning at home!

Today was our first ever CONDUCTORS OF LEARNING DAY! We started off with Minds in Motion for 3-5th graders, then launched into Unified Sports, and ended the day with Brick Bash!!
