Concert for Understanding Excerpt 01/03/2018

Last November, members of the Hartt School presented a Concert for Understanding in response to heart breaking events on campus. Below is a link to a recording of one of the pieces on the program, 'Finlandia' by Jean Sibelius. Enjoy and Happy New Year!

Concert for Understanding Excerpt Students from the University of Hartford's The Hartt School held a "Concert for Understanding" on Friday, Nov 10.

11/09/2017

This Friday, November 10th, members of the Hartt Orchestra and Wind Ensemble will be playing a Concert for Understanding in the North Gengras Cafe at 4 pm. All are welcome to attend this free concert.

The Concert for Understanding is a student-driven initiative, with guidance from Professor Glen Adsit and Associate Professor Edward Cu***ng. In coming to us, students from the Instrumental Studies Division at The Hartt School wanted to do something in response to a school crisis that continues to grip them still, to this day, using a language all of us can understand--music. Members of the Hartt Orchestra will speak at the event and students are encouraged to speak during the concert as well.

The program below, devised by the students, was done with careful consideration towards a spiritual, non-religious, and hopeful tone.

Copland: Fanfare for the Common Man
Ives: Unanswered Question
Elgar: ‘Nimrod’ (from Enigma Variations)
Barber: Adagio for strings
Mozart: Ave Verum Corpus
Bernstein: One Hand, One Heart (from West Side Story)
Sibelius: Andante festivo
Liadov: Plaintive Song
Sibelius: Finlandia
